Great movie! I wish I could get a copy to play it on my DVD player, instead of having to dig out and hook up my old VCR when ever I want to watch it.

"There's no place like home." Dorothy and her friends seek the answer to their desires in a land of dreams and nightmares. Brilliant use of color and sepia. Classic songs, incredible performances and special effects that still hold up today. One of my ten best.

A film that hits just about every human emotion in the repertoire and
does so surprisingly well, although there is some overeagerness amongst the callow youth. The biggest surprise of all, however, is just how
enchanting Clara Bow is as the very sexy girl next door. While obviously men's tastes in women differ, it is still rather difficult to believe that Charles Rogers wasn't at least infatuated with his next door neighbor. Clara's personality is just as attractive as her looks. Watching
her is by far the most pleasant part of the film. If only women were around like her these days...

My 9 year olds have always loved this movie. The loyalty and friendship of the animals are genuine. The narration was superb - easy and interesting for kids yet not boring. There are enough talking animals nowadays. These two dogs and their cat were real. The humans that crossed their path spoke, and that made for enough breaks in the narration. This movie inspired us to read the book - also good. We are now hoping for the DVD. WALT DISNEY, BRING THIS BACK ON DVD, PLEASE!

Ben-Hur (Four-Disc Collector's Edition)

This is the best American movie ever made. Everything is done superbly. Great story, outstanding acting, fantastic picture made with 65mm cameras, masterful music score. It is hard to find anything bad about this movie.

Aspect ratio of this movie is incredible 2.76:1. On standard 4:3 TV black bars will occupy more space than the movie itself. This method creates spectacular panoramic shots which is important for epic movies with great action scenes.

Chariot race is one of the best action sequences ever shot in a movie. With no digital computer effects it is a true masterpiece. Pod racing looks great in Star Wars Episode 1 but it is entirely done digitally, something not available in 1959.

The hardest part of writing a review for this movie was selecting a myriad of titles that filled my imagination: "Fell on its Own Plunger," or "Navy Recruiting Film," or "Pull the Pin on this One and Release the Charging Handle, " or "Weapons Free at the Movie Marquee."

Although I have a great memory for the good things, I also have one for those which are bad, and this is bad. It's bad enough to make John Wayne's "The Green Berets" look like a Cannes Festival Film Classic, and this ranks as the worst military movie I have ever seen, being right down there with "The Blue Max."

It is 1942 and Colonel Darby played by James Garner is marked as a "comer" in the army. That was the term of the day for someone who was destined for the stars, at least on his epaulettes. Darby wants to ... Read More

I love this movie!Since I was around 5 or 6 years old, this film has been one of my favorites. The original book is a timeless classic for all ages.Out of all the film adaptations, this one is tied with the Hallmark one as my favorite. It perfectly recreates the eerie feel of the manor and the moors it is built upon. The black and white appearance of the film are made for this type of piece. Also, when the film switches to technicolor for the garden scenes, the effect is stunning. It makes for a seamless transition from the somber outside world into the pleasant magic of the garden. In addition to this, the acting is wonderful.Margaret O'Brien is the ideal choice to play Mary Lennox. She manages to make the transition from nasty child to nice child seem real and convincing. She is also very likable in the part even at ...
