VHS : The Lion King
The best Disney animated film ever...This film had it all, it was funny, emotional, had family drama, and above all, great animation and songs! My personal favorite character is Rafiki, the Baboon! I still cant forget the line he says to Simbe, "Past can hurt, but as I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it!" it is so true! i loved Zazu's weirdness, and shenzi's humor, above all, i loved Pumba's innocence and Timon's intelligence! In short, i found the film the best film ever... The voice cast is also great. Mathew did complete justice to Simba, and what can I say about Mufasa, He is the best King, and dad anyone can ever get! The movie is not meant for kids, its meant to teach every adult a lesson...to find our place in the great "Circle Of Life". Thank-You Disney For The Lion ... Read More

VHS : Aladdin
Sure, there are the classics like CINDERELLA and SLEEPING BEAUTY. There are Pixar marvels like WALL-E and FINDING NEMO (which I adore). But for me, the real golden age of Disney came during the time when Alan Menken made animated musicals. POCHAHONTAS, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LITTLE MERMAID, and ALADDIN are some. These are the real Disney classics.

I recieved this as an unexpected Christmas present several years ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I watched the film and the special features. They impressed me beyond compare. Besides the glorious film itself, the special features are some of the very best I've seen, and that's saying a lot. THREE WISHES, the comprehensive making-of documentary, is a joy to watch. The cartoon of the Genie's round-the-world vacation is short but ... Read More

VHS : Peter Pan (Fully Restored 45th Anniversary Limited Edition)
Peter Pan is a very clever and well-thought out Disney film. I have always enjoyed this film but parts are a bit slow so I can't give this classic a perfect rating. Peter Pan and Tinkerbell are pure magic, love his childlike spunk and her stubborn atttitude! Great family flick, enjoy.

VHS : Phantom Tollbooth
For fans of Chuck Jones, this is a great way to see some of his work outside of the Looney Tunes.

For fans of the book, this is just a passing curiosity.

Too many liberties were taken with the property. It only resembles the book in the most superficial of ways. The magic and charm of the book is lost in this animated version. I was very disappointed in it. Especially after wanting to see it for years. The songs in the film don't work as a way to advance the plot. They're just in there to be in there. They have no function at all.

As stated, most of the charm and magic of the book is gone. You get the basic plot. Milo gets the tollbooth. Takes his journey to rescue Rhyme and Reason. Along the way are Tock and the Humbug. In a nut shell, you go from The Land ... Read More

Even though this was made so many years ago, my kids (1 and 3) love seeing Pete interact with Elliot throughout the movie. The songs are wonderful as well and they often sing along! I will admit, the people at the very beginning of the movie are scary looking, which I choose to skip until they get a little older.

This is a great love story. It is very touching and shows people that one can go after their dreams and get them. The love story between two people is a bonus behind the real love story of loving yourself enough to follow your dreams!

VHS : Where The Red Fern Grows
I couldn't help myself. This is a touching movie with all the flavor of a time gone by. Very intimate to detail of life in early America. I won't reveal too much but It is so good it is one of my favorites of all time now.

On my first viewing, my two Springer Spaniels were watching it with me, one on each side of me on the sofa, and I couldn't help myself but cry unashamed at a few points. I'm just soft for caring for dogs and the reality of how beautiful they really are in their pure care for their place as man's best friend. This is a unique and one-of-a-kind story that I recommend to anyone who loves dogs and kids and family.

VHS : Jungle Book (1994)
I haven't read the book, so I don't know how accurate the film is, but I enjoyed this version of "The Jungle Book". It's all about a grown up Mowgli's struggle to fit in with British colonial society, after he is lured out (more or less) by Kitty, a girl he knew as a child before he was lost to the jungle, a girl who just happens to be the local Colonel's daughter. Her boyfriend, a British soldier called William, doesn't like Mowgli at all, but he is however terribly fascinated by the golden dagger Mowgli found in the jungle...

It's worth a look. Sam Neill and John Cleese are both in the film, and I enjoyed their performances, I usually do when they're in films. Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli wasn't too bad either, though I haven't really seen him in much else. The Indian location was a great ... Read More
