VHS : Enchanted April (1991)
I wasn't sure if I should give this film five stars in terms of how it stands against, say, CITIZEN KANE or LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, but after reading many of the other reviews here, I think I should. I can watch my (VHS) video of it over and over - the reasons why have mostly been said by others.
I just wanted to add that, if you have an all-region DVD player and can't wait until it's FINALLY released here, there is a Hong Kong release available at Asian DVD sites, like yesasia. Perhaps Amazon could get this one, review its quality, and offer it themselves?

VHS : A Town Like Alice
I loved this series, when I first watched in on television back in the '80s. Every couple of years I pull the tape off the shelf and re-watch it.

This is not just for Bryan Brown fans, but for the Gordon Jackson fans in the crowd. Jackson's portrayal of a man who falls in love too late in life, is very touching.

I would love to see it available on DVD!

VHS : Pride & Prejudice (1995) (6pc) (Coll Box)
If you want to watch Pride and Prejudice, then this is by far the best version. Jane Austen wrote a great novel, with fantastic prose and this production does it justice.

It was a BBC series, and because it ran for a full hour (no commercials on the BBC!) for six weeks, you'll need to put aside 6 hours or split it up to watch it, but is really worth your time. It is very close to the original book. Albeit Mr D'Arcy did not swim across the pond in the book, but after seeing Colin Firth come out of the water, you'll consider this a worthwhile deviation of the original....swoon!!

The acting is excellent, and everything about it from the costumes to the locations are fantastic. It is sumptuous. I'd agree that when compared side by side, the VHS version bathes it in a lovely glow as ... Read More

Although the product itself was in excellent condition,
I was extremely disappointed in the timeliness of the shipment.
I ordered it on May 5th. I didnt pay extra for faster shipment, but I did say that I needed it for Mother's day on the 11th. I understand that you cant guarantee delivery date but I was assured it would be mailed on Wed, May 7th. I didn't even get it the whole next week after Mothers day.
It wasnt delivered until the 29th. I could have walked across the country in that time.

VHS : The Wizard of Oz
This isn't the most expensive or fancy Wizard of OZ DVD release, but for the money it is probably the best. I bought this for my daughter, and the DVDs are attractively screen printed. The case isn't anything fancy, but it does have a few extra features and I'm sure it'll be a treasured movie in our collection for years to come!

7.Yentl starring: Robbie Barnett, Lynda Baron, Danny Brainin, Renata Buser, Allan Corduner

I agree with others in wondering where the DVD is of this movie. I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and loved it then. Lately I have been listening to the music again and realizing it is some of Streisand's best. I wanted to see the movie again but, alas, no DVD after extensive searching!! I think it is long overdue.

This is a nice family movie that is worthwhile watching more than once not only by its great music but by Clifton Webb's acting. I hope to be able sometime within the near future to obtain a copy in DVD format.

VHS : To Sir, with Love
Good, not great tale of a Senior class in a London public school circa 1967. Poitier is excellent as Mark Thackeray, a first year teacher with an engineering degree, who takes on some of the toughest Dickensian type students that one can imagine. Everyone in the class is seriously deficient;no Oxford aspirants here. So, Mark literally throws away the books and attempts to teach social skills, much to the chagrin of many faculty members, too burned out or sarcastic, no longer able or willing to put up much of a fight. Inner city teachers circa 2008 please take note. The saddest commentary in the film is the further deterioration of the public schools since Lulu sang her last note. There is nary a knife to be seen, no guns, no bombs, no wanton gang atttacks. Thackeray does his best, receives a job as an engineer, then turns ... Read More

VHS : Love With the Proper Stranger
Two films that tackle the difficult question of how to deal with an unwanted pregnancy are the 1963 classic Love With The Proper Stranger, starring Steve McQueen and Natalie Wood, and the 2006 film Bella, starring Eduardo Verastegui and Tammy Blanchard. Both films are wonderful for different reasons. I give Love With The Proper Stranger 5 stars simply for the script and acting, which are superb. I give Bella 4 stars overall.

In Love With The Proper Stranger, directed by Robert Mulligan, McQueen is a musician that has to face the responsibility of having gotten a girl he can barely remember (Natalie Wood) pregnant; and Wood has to decide what to do about it so her overly protective Italian-American family doesn't go berserk. She and McQueen decide to seek an abortion during a time when that was illegal; so it means ... Read More
