VHS : Dead Man's Walk
Back in the 1840's the State Texas was known as the Texas Republic, a harsh environment where several cultures clashed: Apache and Comanche, Anglos and Hispanics, for the most part, Mexicans. The battle over land, water and resources was furious, the spirit of these men as they set out to conquer, indomitable. The Texas Rangers were members of a law enforcement agency that investigated crimes from murder to political corruption, tracking fugitives and forging most important events in Texas history.

In their early days, the Texas Rangers protected the frontier against Indian attacks on settlers, then serving as scouts, spies, couriers, and guides for those wishing to settle in the West. These men were trained to aim, fire and reload their weapons from horseback, an amazing development ... Read More

Lonesome Dove is one of the finest Western films I have ever seen. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones are top notch in this movie.

I saw this when it first aired, and then again as a repeat on Lifetime or something. It's really quite good I thought. The actors for Chris Pritchard and James Upchurch were very intense I thought and did really well. Ed Asner is always fun to watch too... anyway its a great movie. And for some clarification because none of the other reviews mentioned it... yes this is the one where the kids get all whacked out on drugs, alcohol, and D&D to go off one of the kids parents. It's portrayed well in this film... its just sad that its true.

I avoided this movie because the title sounded like an old PI mystery. Happily, I was wrong. This movie is more like a good football game when your favorite team takes on the odds-on favorite. It's well writen and has charatars to love and route for. Saul Rubinek is a villain so charming and evil you just love hating him and watching him fall. During the final performances of Carroll O'Conner's life he played tough, big hearted guy who would do anything to protect his loved ones. (He played the same type of charatar in "Return to Me. Another movie which I reconmend.) In this movie he is wonderful playing "Balls" O'Malley.

Don't get me wrong. I hold the Nazis in the poorest of esteem. They were a blight on humanity. But, that in itself is a problem with this film.

The unadulterated racism of the Nazis isn't really expressed here. For an historical document on that regime this is inexcusable. What we get is a highly entertaining show on the villainy of the Nazi leaders on trial and the moral rightness of those who are judging them. For a pursuit of the average viewer perhaps this is sufficient. But, as a student of history I recognize that the problems don't boil down to such a simplicity. There is no mention of just what made Hitler's rise to power actually happen. Hitler himself is treated as unapproachable on every level. Not that I am interested in his ideas, but seriously how does one have an indepth ... Read More

VHS : Napoleon (TV Miniseries)
This film is more like a soap opera than a history movie. It heavily focuses on a few relationships but badly neglects why the countries were fighting, what reforms Napoleon was making, and why Napoleon was such a great commander.

You will learn far more watching the one hour documentary about Napoleon in the History Channel DVD *The Conquerors.* It shows how much this film leaves out.

Save your time and money. This movie is an embarrassment to the cast. I cannot believe that the likes of Brando and Sutherland were involved in this waste of celluloid.
