VHS : 101 Dalmatians (Walt Disney's Classic)
Walt Disney's "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" is one of the best loved family films of all time, however, when lined up against greats like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Pinocchio", it is easy to see its shortcomings. Standing alone, it is a highly entertaining adventure that can be enjoyed by anyone and if released today, I believe it would create the same sensation it caused when it premiered in 1961.

The story revolves around two Dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, and their owners, Roger and Anita, who occupy a modest flat in urban London. Not long after Perdita gives birth to a litter of fifteen puppies, they are abducted by the evil Cruella De Vil, an old schoolmate of Anita's who lusts for a coat made of Dalmatian puppy fur. While the humans mourn, Pongo and Perdita ... Read More

VHS : Robin Hood (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
As with many stories, this one comes from several versions, even within the Disney group. This is basically the version I remembered of the animated presentations of Robin Hood. Look for some of the Robin Hood cliches, like the arrow splitting the arrow already in the bulls eye (Can this really be done? Check with the Myth Busters!)

Sherwood Forest may be close to home. During one of the fight scenes, I distinctly heard the "fight song" "On Wisconsin." How did this end up in the movie? Was this some kind of product placement?

Buy it. Enjoy it. Give a copy to a kid you know. Keep a copy for the kid you are.

VHS : The Jungle Book (Fully Restored 30th Anniversary Limited Edition)
The Jungle Book is one of those Disney classics that I never ever get tired of watching! It was the first ever Disney cartoon that my parents got me when I was a child. The characters in this masterpiece are wonderful and each and every one of them has a unique style and personality. Kudos to Rudyard Kipling for writing this beautiful story that will live on in our hearts for many years to come!

VHS : The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Walt Disney's Masterpiece)
Disney really could have crammed ALL the Winnie the Pooh theatrical shorts onto this disc. As it is, we're given three strung together as one (Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too!) with some new footage (in much the same way as Daffy Duck's Quackbusters). Because of this, there is no consistent story from beginning to end other than the usual hapless, hijinks of the animals from Hundred Acre Wood. I really would have preferred the complete original cartoons, but that's why I don't work for Disney.

They certainly don't make cartoons like this anymore though (too busy with soulless rubbish like Meet the Robinsons [Blu-ray]). TMAOWTP was certainly one of their last greats of old-school animation. The seasonal colors ... Read More
