Umberto Lenzi, he's the unheralded genius that crafted the holy trinity of cannibal films--MAN FROM DEEP RIVER, EATEN ALIVE, and CANNIBAL FEROX. Here he follows Romero and Fulci into the zombie field. Sort of.

It doesn't take long for the chaos to erupt. Shortly after a radioactive spill, a plane makes an emergency landing at the airport. The passengers aren't in the best of moods, and it's not because their flights got delayed. They've been horribly mutated and are now craving human blood.

This is a simple basic setup for an all-you-can-eat gore-lovers buffet. However this film had a starving budget. Also, Umberto altered some zombie DNA, and the results were disastrous. For one, the zombie makeup looked like it was snagged from the blue light special at K ... Read More

[good things]
It's a great, but typical haunted house movie, even though not very interesting it was entertaining. The girl wasa very good and creepy addition to the downright eerie backing music/score. I believe the movie was very well done, and the location was right on.

[the bad]
Typically with movies like this, the bad acting is a given-- we have that. We also have almost no blood, and the blood and effects we get were obvious low budget, but alright. The story also kind of drags on a little too long, there were times when I found myself wanting to hit fast forward. The overdubbing wasn't too great either.

[final thoughts]
Umberto Lenzi is not known for making great films, Ghost House is nothing different, but definitely one of his best. This ... Read More

VHS : Paranoia (1969)
I'm a big Carroll Baker fan. This movie is good trash. Carroll looks beautiful in it and shows lots of skin.
It's pan and scan so you miss some of the image on each side of the screen. The story is pretty suspenseful but it goes on too long. I love the trashy movies she made in Europe in the 60s and 70s. Good fun.
But buy this on DVD, if you can find it.

VHS : Welcome to Spring Break
This movie is alot of fun. Unfortunately it's in 4:3 fullscreen and it was shot in widescreen , I bought the pal region 2 version called 'nightmare beach" which is in widescreen (it's the same movie.)This is a giallo/slasher flick that has roots back to the truly classic giallos like (by every critics standard) 'what have they done to your daughters?" (1974) and the great giallo "strip nude for your killer" (1976) those movies featured a helmeted motorcycle killer as well. And they are way above this one in every aspect. That being said this is a fun movie that transports you back to spring break in the late 1980's. The music is great hard rocking fun and the clothes styles were definately interesting. Much more fun than the sad baggy looking and bland styles of today. Umberto Lenzi did make some great movies and ... Read More

VHS : From Hell to Victory
As Robert A. Bowers already mentioned, this movie has the lovely actress Capucine in it. That alone earns the movie at least three stars! Despite the great cast and the abundant action, this movie has so many cliches and corny dialogue that you'll need a dose of Aleve just to finish it! Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed watching this war movie ever since I was a kid, only now I see all the plot holes and flaws!

The movie begins on August 24, 1939, in a Paris cafe, where six friends (George Peppard, George Hamilton, Horst Bucholz, Anny Duperey, Sam Wanamaker, and Jean Pierre Cassel) from different countries (of course) are about to be torn apart by World War Two. They vow to meet again on the next August 24, not realizing that the war would still be raging then.

All six join the Allies, except the ... Read More

After watching the movie and reading some of the reviews here, it has me a bit puzzled as to what movie some of these people were watching. This movie, considering it was made in the early 80's and on a budget of next to nothing, is excellent. This is what the horror genre should strive to be once again and I think there is a renaissance of sorts coming in the genre. The special effects are first rate and very realistic, especially when you consider that the technology of the period was nothing like it is now and the low budget this flick was made off of. The plot is okay and the acting is pretty good especially with all things considered. The scenery was beautiful
Despite the fact I was surprised by the lack of violence(I was expecting some seriously hard core stuff), the movie overall was pretty good. The main characters, ... Read More
