VHS : Beetlejuice (P&S Slip)
Maybe the definitive Burton film (or maybe more like a tie with `Edward Scissorhands'), `Beetlejuice' is a perfect representation of what Tim Burton is all about. It is loud and boisterous and at the same time dark and edgy. The film very much looks and feels like almost everything that comes out of the Burton factory, yet it is surprisingly fresh in a way. Maybe this has to do with the fact that it is one of his earlier works and so the colors and graphics are not as crisp, which adds an almost gothic layer to the films feel.

Then again, maybe it is the mere fact that Michael Keaton gives the best performance in any Burton film; ever.

The film follows Adam and Barbara as they learn to cope with life after death. Yes, a horrific car accident leaves Adam and Barbara ... Read More

VHS : Frankenweenie
Set in contemporary suburbia, young Victor Frankenstein happily plays with his aptly named bull terrier "Sparky", when the tragic happens... the spunky pooch is hit and killed by a car. Crushed, Victor struggles to acclimate to life without him, when he receives the bright Promethian idea to re-animate Sparky after watching the science teacher demonstrate electrical muscle spasms with an "ex-frog".

He rushes home to bring his beloved canine partner back to life. Under the suspicious gaze of a neighbor, he gathers the necessary equipment from the garage, and sneaks out to the pet cemetery to disinterr the pup, anxiously awaiting the next storm to arrive, which is fortunately within a couple night's time.

Predictably, after studying through several books on the subject, he actually ... Read More

Keaton and Basinger are very bland, and some new guy named Knoxx is all over the place and Gordon ain't in much. And the Joker upstages Batman. But the dark feel would rub off on many comic-book adaptions, and the big success would lead to more superhero films. (For better or worse.) And Jack Nicholson is very good, amd the set and score are amazing. Worth a rent.

VHS : Edward Scissorhands
I saw this wonderful movie in 1990 when it first came out. I was already a Tim Burton fan of sorts, but this made me a Burton fanatic. I saw it first with my wife, and I remember thinking at the very beginning, when Danny Elfman's haunting, beautiful score was only a few notes old, that I was going to love this film. And I did. It just hit me right in the heart, in the most vulnerable, deepest part of my soul. I know that sounds pretentious, but it's the best I can do with my limited writing ability. Now understand, I was 39 years old at the time, a pipefitter/welder by trade, certainly not someone people would think of as "sensitive" or "artistic" by nature. I've been in more than my share of fistfights, ride a Harley, and love guns, power tools, and anything that explodes. But by the end of Edward Scissorhands, ... Read More

Michael Keaton.Danny DeVito.Michelle Pfieffer.Christopher Walken.Four excellent actors together in one of the darkest takes on Batman:Batman Returns.Batman(Keaton)must rid Gotham City of the bizarre and sinister sewer-dwelling monster, Penguin(DeVito),the mysterious and sultry Catwoman(Pfieffer), and the CEO tycoon Max Shreck(Walken).

This obviously Tim Burton movie shows that Batman is the best from the flashy effects, dark settings, and eye-captivating plot, puts Batman Returns on one of the best batman movies(The Dark Knight was the best)in my eyes.Keaton obviously knows when he's got a good gig too!But I must warn parents that this movie is definatly PG-13 for a reason!(Very dark and scary for children under ten, especially DeVito's Penguin)!

It had been a while since I had seen this movie, but you could tell that the quality was much better! I had forgotten how funny and weird and wacky "Nightmare" is; then I remembered that it was a Tim Burton movie.
