VHS : Saving Private Ryan
I hope that this is the closest that I ever come to combat in my life. Thank God for the men that put their lives on the line to keep us, and the world, free. Hats off to Spielberg for the realism of the combat. That should be enough for all of us to make a promise to ourselves to personally thank as many vets as we can for serving to keep us free. War is no walk in the park, and this movie comes closest to capturing just how close to hell it really is. This movie teaches a lot about sacrifice, courage, heroism, and emotion. Sometimes there are causes greater than our own selves which are worth sacrificing for. A great movie for this era. Too many men of that generation have passed away - this captures a little bit of what was special about that generation. A must see for all kids as soon as ... Read More

VHS : The Indiana Jones Trilogy
Three years after he successfully thwarted the Nazis attempt to harness the power of the Ark of the Covenant; Indiana Jones is back for even more adventure with "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". Joining star Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg we have a new lead actress, as Kate Capshaw ("Black Rain") becomes the newest Indy girl, and young actor Jonathan Ke Quan as Indy's latest associate, the pint-sized Short Round; along with two new writers, Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, that had previously worked with producer and co-creator George Lucas on his teen classic "American Graffiti". With all of the pieces in place, it was time for the adventure to continue, as "The Man in the Hat" was back once more on the silver screen.

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" finds our hero (Harrison ... Read More

VHS : Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
After preventing the Nazis from gaining control of the all-powerful Ark of the Covenant, and freeing slave children from an oppressive cult, Indiana Jones is back once again for yet another thrilling adventure. Series star Harrison Ford returns as the title character, along with John Rhys-Davies reprising his role of Sallah from "Raiders of the Lost Ark", and new to the series we have the original James Bond himself, Sean Connery ("007: Goldfinger") as Indy's long lost archaeologist father. With two highly successful films already established in the series, the third one would no doubt enthrall fans to some degree, but would the quality of the first two films remain intact all the way through the third; or has Indiana Jones finally met his match?

Upon receiving disturbing news that his father, Professor Henry Jones, ... Read More

VHS : Schindler's List (2pc)
This movie needs to be seen by everyone, and the special features are just as good and informative as the movie. The movie is probably the highly of Spielberg's career. It is about Oscar Schindler who was a Nazi and who saved many Jews during the Holocaust. This movie is shown in black and white, which really draws the audience into the movie and the feel of the 1940s. The only color is a red coat on a little girl, which Spielberg does intentionally so pay attention to that. This is emotionally charged and I usually cry a great deal during this movie. It is an absolute must see by everyone. It is long but is worth it. If you only get one movie this year it should be this one! Amazing from start to finish.

VHS : Close Encounters of the Third Kind (The Collector's Edition)
One thing it might mean is that this is one of the most unique science fiction films ever made. I recently watched it with my wife (who very rarely enjoys any kind of sci-fi), a friend, and that friend's wife (who simply detests all sci-fi). Yet everyone enjoyed it. (My friend and I had already seen it.)

"This means something," is a recurring line throughout CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, similar to "I've got a bad feeling about this," in the STAR WARS films. So, the dialogue is not the best ever written. But CE3K contains a human element interwoven throughout both the character development as well as the plot development that you're unlikely to find any other science fiction film, and certain not to find in any other UFO film.

Often great movies get cloned and copied, and fans of the original get annoyed. Well, ... Read More

This movie has so many different aspects in it that I wanted to
study it. I have seen it on tv, but there is so many deep messages
in it that I wanted to study it. It is consumed with American culture-
especially from the black perspective. Several times I have discussed
things in the movie with my black friends.

For some reason there is a huge circle of film snobs (cinaphiles, movie buffs) who absolutely hate this film. I can understand to an extent, but not seeing the films central glistening facet is to ignore what is right in front of your eyes. Yes, even the vilest of movie critics; even someone who detests everything that is so Hollywood about Steven Spielberg will tell you that Christian Bale delivers quite possibly the finest child acting performance of all time.

That said; I don't hate this movie.

The film tells the story of young Jamie Graham, a twelve-year-old British boy living with his family in China. During World War II Jamie is separated from his family and finds himself in an interment camp struggling to survive in a world that was once so familiar but is now so strange. We watch Jamie (now known as Jim; new name for ... Read More
