I remember watching this movie on ABC in 1987, and the videocassette version has been edited in several places. In fact, I think (though Amazon doesn't give running times) that the VHS version is considerably shorter than the broadcast version. Also, if you go by Playboy magazine's 1988 pictorial on the movie, there was a considerable amount of nudity which didn't make it (of course) into the original U.S. broadcast version, or (less explicably) into the VHS release. It seems that the bare female flesh was reserved for the European version. If and when this movie is put on DVD, I hope we'll get the full, uncut version. The Lost Honor of Kathryn Beck This is an entertaining movie with a message: beware of justice bureaucrats trying to use you. Set in Chicago, it is concerned with a search for an alleged underground terrorist, who happened to meet a lonely stranger. This stranger then becomes a target, aided by a sleazy tabloid journalist (modeled after a TV journalist?). The message is: get a lawyer (or public defender) if you are ever taken in for questioning, especially if you are innocent or ignorant of the reasons! I have this set in VHS and I really hope it comes out in DVD. I would buy it all over again. All these productions are quite true to the Catherine Cookson books. I would recommend Fifteen Streets in particular. The movie creates an incredible portrayal of the helplessness of those who are poor. My only criticism would be these need to be released as DVD's.

The most poignant episodes are those in which James Bellamy confesses to Georgina that he loves her. She returns his feelings but does not wish to marry him. There is happiness when James comes back from America a rich man and tragedy when he loses it all because of the Market Crash. The ending is beautifully done, with Georgina's wedding to a future Duke. Rose going through the house just before its new owners take over adds a dramatic touch.
