I did it. I bought a Disney movie -- I mean a kids-oriented one. And then... I actually showed it to my kids (first I watched it again, just to make sure).

This is so totally out of character for me, that it *does* deserve a gasp of surprise.

Because Disney. DISNEY! No positive male role-models DISNEY! Every male character is a fool, a tool, a slob, or a villain DISNEY! Forget about little boys, because only girls are celebrated DISNEY! And yes, I still think that is the case for Disney. And I wonder who all those little girls will grow up to marry, when all the boys are fools, tools, slobs, or villains.

But Julie Andrews. JULIE ANDREWS! Mary Poppins!

So I cracked. And I bought it.

And I had a few twinges on my ... Read More

I loved this movie as a child and my 2 year old loves it too.
The animation in the middle of the movie makes it a great surprise for kids.

VHS : Old Yeller
This movie hit the theaters on Christmas Day in 1957 starring Dorothy McGuire as Katie Coates, Fess Parker as Jim Coates and Jeff York as Bud Searcy. Based on the novel by Fred Gipson, Old Yeller is set in Texas in 1869. While his father is away on a cattle drive, 15-year-old Travis Coates takes over management of the family farm. Adopting a strictly business policy, Travis is irritated when younger brother, Arliss, adopts a frisky stray dog. Soon Travis is as fond of the dog as everyone else in the family is; moreover, "Old Yeller" is an excellent watchdog. However, while fighting off a mad wolf, Yeller is infected with rabies. Though Yeller seems unaffected at first, he eventually behaves so viciously that the disheartened Travis has no choice but to **** *** ***. A heart-to-heart talk between ... Read More

I have enjoyed this movie since I was a young girl. It has only gotten better with age. The performances are wonderful and Orson Welles is terrific. I appreciate that the movie is still in glorious black and white. The shadows of his home would be lost along with the brooding atmosphere.

'The Adventures of Merlin Jones' has been available for years on DVD, but they have overlooked this funny sequel time and time again. It just doesn't make sense and the way Disney regurgitates their movies every couple of years, I figured this was bound to come out sooner or later! It's bad enough that a lot of there older films get horrible "pan & Scan" releases, but I'll take it anyway they want to do it at this point. I would hope it's not a "PC" issue!.....aargghhhh! :-( Please release the DVD!

Johnny Tremain, originally came out when I was 10 years old and I hadn't seen it since then! It was fun to go back and see it at age 61! They don't make many pictures like this, great family entertainment! But you always expect that from Walt Disney!
