VHS : To Kill a Mockingbird (Widescreen)
A movie that is just plain well-acted. The ensemble supports Mr. Gregory Peck as if his life depended on it. Mr. Brock Peters becomes more than the average mongrel can stand: an innocent man of a shade other than pink, and justice won't be served because of the mongrels. But criticizing this film would be like shooting a mockingbird, wouldn't it? This is another dumbed-down attempt at looking at the mongrel world from a bystander's perspective.

VHS : Inside Daisy Clover
Inside Daisy Clover was Natalie Wood's best effort, but the truly amazing performance in this movie is Christopher Plummer's portrait of the powerful, imperious movie mogul Raymond Swann. Plummer's poolside soliloquy which ends in the ironic "Love, Who needs it?" is masterful.
PLEASE give us this movie in DVD. I still keep the VHS version even though I no longer have a VCR!

This film is more than it wants to be. The critic and cynic in me would gleefully join Mr. Marshall Fine in enumerating the many ways this film tries to manipulate its audience. First on my list would be the score by Dave Grusin which acts as a musical leash to pull the audience where they probably would have gone anyway. But that is where I will stop, because although the film does everything in its power to convince us it's the cinematic equivalent of Prozac, it betrays this image by containing subtle, powerful insights that set it apart from its saccharine ilk. There IS something different here, you just have to know where to look. Its not so much about what Clara does for David, a lot of his problems remain after her departure... What is special about "Clara's Heart" is that its about the indestructible ... Read More

VHS : Fear Strikes Out
I was very satisfied by everyone's performances in this film. Anthony Perkins plays Jimmy Piersall, a player for the Boston Red Sox, who suffers a breakdown and mental illness after his father, played by Karl Malden, pushes him to the brink. He ends up in a hospital and must rediscover himself and how he got there, where he will go next. He also must face his father again. I don't know the other actors' and actresses' names, but all are excellent. This is a movie about ambition, tragedy, and ultimate triumph. Anthony Perkins was an excellent but underrated actor and had a real talent for playing "unhinged" characters; it's a shame that a lot of people only knew him for his "Psycho" character Norman Bates. Although he was great in that role as well, it wasn't his best role; this one very well may have been. I've enjoyed ... Read More
