VHS : Shadowlands (1993)
When C.S.Lewis, author of such books as "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" was only a small boy of 9, his mother died and he learned that his only way through the pain and loneliness was to encase himself in an impenetrable shell, so that pain could not touch him. He leads an ordered, safe life as an Oxford Don, singing in the cathedral choir and lecturing to audiences of adoring women readers. When he meets American writer, Joy Gresham, her brash, New York, Jewish forthrightness almost batters him but luckily he summons enough courage to begin a friendship. He agrees to marry her so as to allow her and her son to remain in England and gradually she softens his defences and becomes part of his life as a platonic friend. When they discover that Joy is dying from incurable cancer, Lewis realises ... Read More

VHS : Young Winston
Young Winston is the story of Winston Churchill. It begins with him being sent off to school at about six, but spends much of its time with him as a young officer in the British Army. The best part to me was the episode during the Boar where he was captured and then escaped. I've been to the spot where he was captured and it was rendered very well in the movie. Indeed it was to see this event that I bought the movie and I was not dissappointed.

Although he had a craving for publicity and perhaps over stated his own abilities, he was certainly no coward.

VHS : Magic
The 1978 film Magic is one of Anthony Hopkins earlier movies and, after watching this, it is plain to see why he is the master of doing suspenseful psychological thrillers. Directed by Richard Attenborough, Magic starred Anthony Hopkins, Ann Margaret, Burgess Meredith and David Ogden Stiers. Written by William Goldman, it told the story of 'Corky' Withers who fails at his first attempt at professional magic. Coming back a year later with "Fats", Corky does well on the circuit. When his agent tries to sign him for his own TV show, when it is mentioned he has to take a physical- Corky quickly declines and bails out. Yet, the truth is, he doesn't want them to find out that he suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder and he hears "Fats" talking to him. Once in the catskills, he meets up with an old flame-Peggy Ann Snow(Ann ... Read More

I had not seen this movie since it first came out and it is still a superb movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone. As a child, I can recall news articles about Gandih. But like most of us, as a child things going on around you don't actually sink in. But this movie re-awakened a very important part of world history for me.

This review refers to the 1998 DVD edition, the only edition available as of this writing. "Chaplin" is a well-crafted, well-acted biography of the famous silent-screen actor/comedian. The transfer of this 1993 film to DVD is adequate. The format is letter-boxed widescreen (not anamorphic--there are black bars on all sides of the image on a large-screen TV. The side bars are not seen on a smaller screen TV). The picture is fairly sharp, the colors are good, sound quality is fine. The film has an old look about it, but this was probably the intended effect. This is the kind of movie you will watch more than once, so it's worth the purchase price. Highly recommended!

6.In Love and War starring: Chris O'Donnell, Mackenzie Astin, Sandra Bullock, Margot Steinberg, Alan Bennett

VHS : In Love and War
In Love and War is a sweet romantic drama but there are some flaws in this epic love story. Sandra Bullock and Chris O'Donnell have wonderful and natural chemistry but the story seems inaccurate and forced. O'Donnell plays doomed writer Ernest Hemingway and I just felt like the part was too big for him, he tried to make it his own and he failed. Bullock saves this film, she is an unappreciated actress, good film just weak aim.

VHS : Chorus Line
I was fortunate enough to see the original Broadway Play and I was captivated by the story line and the fantastic, heart warming characters in the play. Too bad the Movie Directors and Script Writers had to do a hack job of the play by changing the plot, changing character plots, and adding way too much to the story and settings.

When will they ever learn that if a Broadway Play is a huge success like "A Chorus Line" was, you don't mess with it and destroy the whole meaning of the play and its characters? This Movie was a complete disaster. It changed the entire story line, shifting the attention off the the dancers as were meant to be, to making it all about the love between Casey and the Casting Director.

They even screwed up the MAIN song in the play, "What I did for Love" and that truly angered me. What ... Read More

The title says it all. This is a story about the invasion of the netherlands that was supposed to bring a quik end to Nazi resistance in the ETO. For the most part it is historically accurate, and has an all star cast. The special effects were supprisingly well done considering the time it was filmed (1977). The Airborne scenes were top notch.
