I bought the DVD of Starship Troopers for my wife (believe it or not). She had a video tape of Starship Troopers but the VCR ate it and I am surprising her with the DVD for Christmas. I am very satisfied with the price and the shipping time was ok.

So said the queen then and so it became. This film is one of the great half dozen or so masterpieces of film from the 20th Century. It's no secret that Mr. Hauer is considered the European "James Dean" of his generation and perhaps the most intelligent actor ever from Dutch Cinema. The innovation and pure poetry of "Orange" from the insertion of Hauer into old newsreels, to the delicate embroidery of repetive music has been endlessly copied but never reproduced. A great film has to have transcendant scenes and this is full of them. I wish Amazon would add sub scales for PQ, AQ, overall movie and other criteria, so that, with the advent of Blu-Ray, technical as well as cinematic aspects would be rated separately. What if you love a film, but hate the transfer? I had never seen all of Total Recall, and as a fan of older Sci-Fi and action films, I thought the effects were fun and advanced for the time period. Despite Arnold's mediocre acting skills, I am still a fan of his films, because they're so "over the top" and action packed. (written by Leigh's wife): I was very glad to see that this was the same version that I wanted; I originally had a VHS copy of the "unrated" version. Everything was as I remembered it. I will admit that this movie is not for everyone. I'm hard put to say why I like it - but I do. It's erotic, it's compelling, it's interesting. While I will admit that this isn't exactly Academy Award material, I don't understand the distain and dislike that most people have shown for it. DEFINITELY only for adults!

This film is visually stunning with a soundtrack that sounds truly haunted. Occasionally the film lets itself down with it's editing. I sometimes feel disorientated thinking " wait slow down will you." Having said that - this film is well acted, and really puts you in the Netherlands of the 19th Century. It may not be as hard hitting and exciting as Turkish Delight but this film is equally competent and well worth watching.
