Peter Strauss for a very short time after Rich Man, Poor Man was one of the coolest and most sought after actors of the time, especially for TV movies. If you don't remember the Movie of the Week the you never heard of this great flick, and Peter Strauss was awesome as a convict doing hard time that found his escape on the track.

I haven't seen this movie since it first aired, but I remember it as one of the better TV movies of all time. Great story, great performances. Just give us the damn DVD already! 5 Cleats

I never watched this when it came out in the early 90's, but had heard about it. It was wonderfully done, Daniel Day-Lewis was mesmerizing, and I was struck at how it did not feel the least bit dated. I did not read the book, so can't compare, but for a movie, this had much "edge of your seat" action, romance (not overdone or oversexual), and beauty. And yes, DDL running through the woods makes for some rewinding and replaying!

I read the book & found it to be a great horror story. I have the VHS version of the movie & enjoyed it very much & found that it follows the book quite well except possibly the ending was slightly different. Scott Glenn was great. I would like to find out if this movie is also now available on DVD as many of the VHS movis have been converted to DVD in the latest format & audio techniques.

I hadn't seen this in 15 years and was amazed at how much better it is in every way to the high end noisy Hollywood slop that blows up in our faces these days. The acting, script, look, feel, and moody soundtrack are all top notch. Michael Mann could learn something by studying his old work here instead of torturing us with expensive and boring garbage like Miami Vice. This is not for shoesized IQ's with ADD who need to see stuff blowed up real good every 5 minutes, but if you have a brain that enjoys great character development, cinematography, and subtleties of tension and mood, go for it. A gem in any collection.

When it comes to the "serial killer genre," I suppose Michael Mann's 1986 film "Manhunter" began it all. One could argue for Richard Fleischer's superb The Boston Strangler in 1968, but no matter. Mann's tight and stylish version of Thomas Harris's novel Red Dragon is a thoroughly fascinating work. To this day, I recall the terror felt during the early sequence when Will Graham (William Petersen) investigates the blood-soaked crime scene alone, practically whispering his version of the events into a tape recorder. It's a deeply chilling segment, and one of the first times I can recall such an investigative process shown on film.

Mann, early in his career here, still had his trademark Miami Vice: Season One & Two touches, stark colors, unique MTV-styled camera angles and the insertion of pop ... Read More
