This is one of Newmans best, because he plays a completely dispicable

person with no redeeming qualities. He has no scruples and no character.

It is a great departure for Newman and he does a Great job.

I've wanted to get the CD not the DVD. Buyer's mistake. I decided to keep it because I like Michael Jackson. I'm sure this DVD will do it justice, so I decided to keep it.

Having seen this gem in college, in a cinematography class, I will never forget it. Possibly one of Voigt's best ever. Compare this character to the part he played in "Enemy of the State" and you'll be amazed at the spectrum of his acting skills. The only thing BAD about this movie is the administrator character who is an evil person. I think he was played by Hume Cronyn. But his performance, too, is outstanding. I saw this just recently on one of the oldies networks like AMC. And I was able to share it with my family who came to love this move. DO NOT miss this one. And why is it not out on DVD? It was a GREAT social commentary of the time. Scratch that...it IS a great social commentary of the time. The acting is more than good, it is pure and very real...by all parties. I highly ... Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier play US expatriates ,both jazz musicians, living and working in Paris .Newman is in Paris because he feels more able to grow musically in a European environment while Poitier is escaping racial prejudice in the US .They meet two US tourists and pair off together ,Newman with Joanne Woodward and Poityier with Diahann Carroll .Cue much -frankly rather dull-discourse between the couples in bars ,cafes etc and frequent leisurely perambulations around the city in which they talk(my how they do talk!)about life ,love and the whole damned thing!Carroll devotes much time to trying to persuade Poitier to return to America, while woodward does the same with Newman.

The problem for me with this movis is twofold-the dull maundering script by Jack Sher ,Irene Kamp ... Read More

Elmore Leonard wrote a few Westerns in the '50s that became successful films and this one along with "3:10 to Yuma" still stands out as one of the best of its kind. Kevin Costner has stated in interviews that this film really influenced him in the making of his revisionist Western "Dances with Wolves"--and one can see why. A suspenseful Western with a social consciousness rarely found in films of that era, "Hombre" scored with a solid cast of pros, with Newman in his best Western role ever even over "Butch Cassidy" or "The Left-Handed Gun". Though he plays a stoical character who was raised by the Indians, his John Russell finally reveals himself in the end to be a man of compassion even over his apparent hatred of the White man when he takes action to save a white woman who professed prejudice over the Indians ... VHS : The Spy Who Came in From the Cold
This is the classic John LeCarre thriller. I read it in college and was so moved by it, I never forgot the feel even as I forgot the story. The movie is no less important. Richard Burton plays a spy whose life is cold, unfeeling and distant. How could it be otherwise when you are trying to maintain a lifestyle that is inherently false? He falls in love with a woman and begins to loosen up and think more about a life that he has lost. The ending is a heartbreaker. A very realistic sad film by Martin Ritt and Richard Burton is perfect in his role as George Smiley.

I adored this film. But I must confess some personal bias here--first, because I've had a crush on Peter Coyote for most of my adult life (though his role here is definitely supporting, not major), and second, because my personal life parallels what Rawlings experienced--though I came to a mountain (with a creek) to do my writing. Rip Torn's performance as Marsh Turner is just stellar--one of the best things I've ever seen him do. And Alfre Woodard 'becomes' Gee Chee in a realistic but not over-the-top portrayal of her character. Really, really lovely film.
