VHS : Death Dream
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. YOU REALLY FEEL THE ANGER AND RESENTMENT CHRISTOPHER REEVE'S CHARACTER HAS AGAINST HIS STEP DAUGHTER. I THOUGHT BOTH HE AND HELGENBERG PLAYED THE PARTS SO WELL. THE SORROW THE MOTHER FEELS FOR HER DEAD DAUGHTER IS FELT SO GUTRENCHING. THE END IS WONDERFULLY DONE ALSO. IT PROVES THAT A BOND BETWEEN MOTHER AND CHILD IS NEVER BROKEN EVEN IN DEATH. I GIVE IT ALL FIVE STARS.

VHS : Substitute (1993)
I love the original SUBSTITUTE pictures with Tom Berenger and even all the lousy sequels. So I was prepared to pout when this one popped on my TV, thinking, I wonder if they are now going to have a female version of Tom Berenger? But no, this movie is cut from different cloth. It's still great. Watching it you feel like you've stumbled into some sort of previously unknown Brian De Palma movie. And Amanda Donohue, who never really impressed m,e before, save in her fearlessness in taking off her clothes for Ken Russell movies, is really wonderful in the part of Gayle Richardson, an ordinary school teacher in Albany (upstate New York) whose life goes topsy-turvy on her 10th wedding anniversary, when she discovers a strip of film in the breast pocket of her husband's blue sports jacket. VHS : Apartment Zero
I finished watching Martin Donovan's 1988 psychological thriller APARTMENT ZERO with one of my favorite actors,Colin Firth, and scratched my head at the conclusion, then got something to eat saying "What did I just see?".This film had crept into me,even though I truly thought it to be one of the worst I had ever seen.I just couldn't understand the bizarre screenplay, the odd assortment of actors and any of the plot;yet I was totally unsatisfied not to understand what was going on in writer/director Martin Donovan's brain! This is where two 2-hour long commentaries on this DVD made so many things crystal clear, or at least as clear as it could be made.Should anyone HAVE to be told what a director was trying to communicate? I say "NO" if I am paying good money to see something at the theatre;but in ... Read More

VHS : Mad at the Moon
Mary Stuart Masterson is my all time favorite actress BUT: she should fire her manager for getting her this job. Also the writer and director should never work again.
My copy of this movie is going into the trash.

5.Somebody Is Waiting starring: Gabriel Byrne, Nastassja Kinski, Johnny Whitworth, Brian Donovan, Tyler Cole Malinger
directed by: Martin Donovan

VHS : Somebody Is Waiting
I liked this movie. Its interesting and not predictable. Gabriel Byrne plays an alcoholic father returning to his children after being away 4 years. His wife has recently been killed and he tries to resume his position as head of household. This causes problems for his oldest son who is struggling with guilt over his mother's death, and mixed emotions about having his father back again. Good performances with a non-typical ending.
