VHS : The James Bond Collection
Okay, these sets suck. Come on, this is James friggin' Bond here!!! We can do better than this. Here's my idea of how to handle the Bond box sets, and with any luck in 2010 they'll this to me. As much as I'd love to see one huge box set, that just wouldn't work. First of all it would be simply too big and too expensive, and second of all with new Bond movies every few years it would be out of date rather quickly. So do them by decades. Dig it - the Bond collection volume 1: The 60's. You could do all the movies released after 62's Dr. No but before 1970, and still have room for a really cool bonus disc. Granted, some volumes would be heftier than others (the 90's would be a bit slim), but with no end in sight for the Bond franchise this seems the best way too go. Plus, if you're like ... Read More

Belatedly, I planned to write a review of EOD. However, I find that the rest of you got here first, and have written well-deserved high praise!

I first saw EOD here in the US on a syndicated basis. They chopped it up into two parts, and cut a lot of little "unnecessary" bits (like Craven looking out a second storey window and seeing McCroon stepping out of the trees with a shotgun). The sound quality was fair to poor, also.

We eventually got hold of the 2-cassette VHS copy, and caught all the things we had missed.

This is bravura work, all around. It's a superb cast, with great writing, classic direction, a fine score. If you're not familiar, read the reviews below, and see this, in uncut form if you possibly can. And as Darius Jedburgh said, "It was ... Read More

I recently purchased this DVD and after watching it I felt like I had just watched a television edit of this movie. I got online and did some searching for the specs of the VHS version and it turns out that this DVD version has some 14 minutes of footage removed. The original movie is 106 minutes and this DVD is 92 minutes (NOT 106 minutes like it says on this website). It even has printed on the DVD box that it has an R rating. The movie as it is on this DVD could easily get a PG-13 rating or maybe pass as a PG rated film. If you are in fact looking for a heavily cleaned up version of this film, this release might be your ticket. But, if you think by ordering this you're getting the R rated thriller that you remember, think again, this DVD edition is the watered down TV edit.

VHS : Homicide Life on the Street: Subway
This is extraordinary acting - vincent D'Onofrio, Andre Braugher (always fabulous in this series) and the other great "Homicide" cast - but this story is amazing. Seemed almost more like a stage production than film/television. I saw the story as a metaphor - life, death, the meaning, the randomness versus design of it all, responsibility/lack thereof, the train....all of it. Extremely powerful in every way. Original, powerful, brilliant work.

VHS : The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Chuckles Bites The Dust
Of all the episodes of Mary Tyler Moore, this has to be the best! The way they deal with the death of their friend, Chuckles the Clown, is both touching and hilarious. The jokes cracked in the newsroom about the bizarre way Chuckles died horrified Mary, but the humor, and the sadness, get to her. As Murray said "It could have been worse. He could have gone as Billy Banana and had a gorilla peel him to death!" ROTF

I know that episode helped me through a very difficult time. When my mother died, it was devastating to me. For some reason, I put on a video of Chuckles Bites the Dust the morning of her funeral. Surprisingly, it helped me cope. Thanks, Chuckles. Thanks Mary.

You need to see part 1(The Mask of Zorro) first, not that it is a must but just to understand a few minor details. Not as good as the ist but a fair movie nonetheless...

VHS : No Escape (1994)
I had rented this years ago but I couldn't pass up the price here so I bought a copy and it was well worth it. I had forgot how good it is at keeping your attention. Ray Liotta, Lance Henrikson, and the rest the cast do a fine job. Fans of movies like "Escape from New York" and "The Soldier" should enjoy it the most. When a soldier is convicted of killing his superior officer we are in the dark as to why at first and the Island prison he is dropped off on is more like "Lord of the Flies" or inhabitants escaped from "The Road Warrior" than normal people. His only concern is getting off this rock and if it means fighting a whole army of these dregs he will do it. Good quality DVD with ample replayability.
