VHS : Ulysses
Kirk Douglas was simply outstanding in this legendary epic saga of Ulysses; King of Ithaca, husband of Penelope: The script is based in the most relevant and emotive sequences of Homer's Odyssey; with magnificent special effects, the encounter with the one' eye giant, the mermaid's songs, the spelling of Circe in what we will find out one of the most expressive, gratifying and ethic confrontations, when Circe proposes him to be God and he replies: there are still major gifts, like to be born, to die and in the middle of the interval: to be a man!

An excellent recreation of Ulysses searching for his return to Ithaca.

VHS : Planet of the Vampires
Although this 1965 film is an Italian production, directed by the famed Mario Bava, it was released by American International and stars American Barry Sullivan as the captain and main protagonist. Its original Italian title is (translated) "Terror in Space," which is better than the American title "Planet of the Vampires" (also "Demon Planet") seeing as how there are no blood-sucking vampires anywhere to be seen.

THE STORY: Barry Sullivan commands a spaceship that goes to a strange unknown planet in response to a distress call from another ship. They soon discover that the creepy planet is home to incorporeal aliens who desire their bodies and ship to leave the planet.

Although "Terror in Space" came out a year before the original Star Trek appeared on television, ... Read More

VHS : Lisa And The Devil
While on a trip to Spain, Lisa Reiner (the beautiful Elke Sommer!!) gets hopelessly separated from her tour group, leading to a bizarre oddyssey into the supernatural. Lisa keeps running into a strange, bald guy w/ a mannequin (Telly Savalas from Horror Express), and she apparently kills another man by accidentally knocking him down some stone steps! Poor Lisa wanders through the labyrinth-like streets / alleys of Toledo, having one weird encounter after another, until finally hitching a ride w/ a married couple and their chauffeur. All is well until they have engine trouble, winding up at a huge mansion in the middle of nowhere. The only residents are an old blind woman (Alida Valli), her odd son (Allessio Orano), and their butler (Telly again!). Things drag on for awhile while the dream-like ... Read More

VHS : Shock
Italian horror cinema, especially it's more exploitative stylings such as giallo, is so hit-and-miss. Some directors are great, others are terrible, even when they're contemporaries. Within oeuvres, some director's movies are quite effective, others are nearly useless (I'm glaring at you, Dario Argento). And, in some cases, even a single movie has its amazing parts and its terrible parts--yes, like Shock, Maestro Mario Bava's final directorial effort.

The concept itself is very good. A mix of Shining and Amityville Horror style haunted house narrative, a woman and her family move into the house of her youth, only to be beset by spectres. Dora, the mother, is first beset by apprehension, then anxiety, then horror, and finally insanity as the house slowly destroys her mind. Young ... Read More

The Italian comic book comes to life in this incredibly strange and enjoyable picture. You know all those day-glo, pop-arty 60s misfires like Barbarella? This is what they were going for. It's like a nihilistic episode of the Batman TV show except that it's seriously sexy as well. Needs to be seen to be believed. Stick around for the commentary and extras too. (And this must be Morricone's craziest score.)

6.The Girl Who Knew Too Much starring: Letícia Román, John Saxon, Valentina Cortese, Titti Tomaino, Luigi Bonos

VHS : The Girl Who Knew Too Much
This movie may seem funny and naive nowdays but just because we've seen too much since 1964.
This is a perfect example of giallo genre, more to it - this film was made on the dawn of giallo genre. There are many things that would be imitated later on in many other popular movies, not only in Italy but all over the world. The story is rather simple as in all giallo films and I would say even plain. Acting is a little hyperbolic as it was usually 40 years ago - theater-like. But the first impression you get after watching is that it reminds of early Hitchcock works. I think we can easily call Mario Bava an "Italian Hitchcock".
If you're looking for a thrill or a scare - you won't find it here 'cos I repeat the movie is rather naive. I think it looked good in 1964 but for our times it's too unsophisticated. ... Read More

VHS : Hatchet for the Honeymoon
In real life, director Mario Bava had a troubled marriage. It was reflected in his "Hatchet for the Honeymoon," a kaleidoscopic, modern gothic horror.

John Harrington's entire life revolves around the stabbing death of his mom on her wedding night. As a little boy, he witnessed the murder but can't remember who committed it. Now he is an adult who manages his mom's fashion salon where beautiful women model wedding apparel. John is tormented by his nagging wife; he obviously married her to financially support his salon. His quest to remember what happened the night of his mom's murder has driven him insane.

John murders young women on their wedding nights. With each murder, he is brought one step closer to remembering who killed his mom. Eventually, he kills his wife who returns from ... Read More

The beautiful colors, camera angles, and bloody effects are what kept me watching this movie. The actors in this have to be some of the most un-charismatic ever! it was fun to see them dispatched before they could say another word and put me to sleep! This is the english version and unfortunately the dubbing is not funny, something that would have helped the entertainment value. Like most european horror this is shocking because of the violence and not scary, with very little suspense(see "let's scare jesica to death" if you want all that). DVD picture is very good, bright and colorful. Audio is in english only and very low. special features trailers of other Bava titles.

I had seen this movie a number of times on tv...It is a few different stories...I love the old B-movie scary, vampire legends...only when I viewed the movie on tv, it was dubbed in english...I had no idea this would be in Italian with subtitles...disappointed with that...I really think the voice of Boris makes the whole vampire story stand out...oh well...thumbs down on this version....

I saw this movie a number of times in theaters, and still enjoy watching it on VHS. They should release this film on DVD. The VHS that I got from Amazon was in good condition, as advertised.
