VHS : Great Expectations
This is the best version of Great Expectations in film, I gave it a star because it's in VHS. I have no idea why they didn't come out on DVD.

Well...if any of you are waiting for DVD or planning to buy this VHS, think again. This film actually came out in DVD at UK so look somewhere else.

VHS : Motel Hell
The premise of the story contained in this DVD really pushes the envelope, in terms of believability. But, that makes watching it both startling and, at times, hilarious. The things that happen at the small "mom-and-pop" motel are such unlikely events. However, there are many moments of suspense, as well...

VHS : In the Beginning (2000)
This is the best general Genesis movie I've seen. The scenes were vivid, the action paced well, the costumes done well and the dialogue was pretty good too.

It goes from the creation, being told by Abraham, to the Israelites entering the Promised Land after their exodus from Egypt. The only story really missing in this movie was Noah's Ark, but that would have made this even longer, but I still wish it was included.

But this movie is very well done. The individual stories draw you into them and you really begin to care about the people they're about.

The second part of the film, which deals with the Exodus, is really compelling and the special effects aren't too bad for a made for TV movie.

This is definitely recommended for the family. It's really ... Read More

VHS : Lion of Africa
Originally a documentary produced by HBO in 1987, this is an adventure movie that did not have that "feel". Fast-paced and spot-on dynamic, Brian Dennehy was superb as a big-hearted rogue in South Africa with an aging, growling bush truck he dubbed "The Lion of Africa". Thoroughly entertaining and informative at the same time, it was a gem of a purchase, even though it is now only available in VHS format and was purchased used from a party in Europe. It arrived as agreed, with a thank you note from the seller. All around, a great deal.

VHS : Mary Mother of Jesus
This is an incredible movie to watch especially as a mother. We watch this movie once a year around Ash Wednesday and I have done this since my kids were 1 and 3 and are now 14 and 16. At one time my younger son was so sad and engrossed with the movie he wanted a "dream catcher" so the thought of the awful things seen as a mother of a child who was tortured so would just go away. I will never forget his true sadness and fear - how the mother of God must have felt! The Schrivers put this film together! Just awesome. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

VHS : Mistral's Daughter
First, Mistral had a legendary love affair with the mother (Maggie), then years later found his true love in her daughter (Teddy). I don't know what kind of emotion that would have created in the mother, nor would I want to know. But for the observer, the story is hard to resist.

Stacy Keach (Mistral) was allegedly battling substance abuse problems while this filmed. He was adequate, and perhaps would have been more so had it not been for the cocaine.

Lee Remick (Kate) was lovely on the outside, even if her character wasn't so lovely on the inside.

Stefanie Powers (Maggie) did a great job, but to me she absolutely should have been Teddy. I even picture her as Teddy as I periodically re-read passages of the book.

Lily Taylor (Teddy) was so miscast! I will ... Read More
