Let me just caution you not to get too excited about this forgettable slasher film from 1981, though. Yes, we are talking about a girls-only night school full of sexually active young women, and, yes, the killings all end in decapitation. Unfortunately, the girls aren't all that hot, a discrete shower scene is the closest you'll come to seeing any nudity, the only hint of lesbianism is less than erotic, and we never get to see an actual beheading. I'm not certain if most criticizing this film so callously are simply a bit daft when it comes to the gist of British humor, but they seem to be missing the vital dynamic of the movie entirely. Think of any Austin Powers movie. Are they intended to be serious Hollywood musicals with deep meaning that exhibit an abundance of musical genius? Not at all...because Mike Myers KNOWS his British humor. Wayward plots involving any combination of 'spies', sexual innuendo and campy musical numbers where characters are prone to break into song at nearly any random point throughout the film are classic trademarks of what we commonly refer to nowadays as 'spoof'. This is in many ways not a very good movie. You have probably heard about how the movie was an absurd thing to begin with (five directors?) and how it blew up in production, and was pretty much thrown together. Nonetheless, it's one of my favorite movies ever. I rarely watch a movie more than once, and I'm drawn to watch this from time to time. It's absurd, silly, and serious all at the same time. For a period piece about the English Civil War and the role that Oliver Cromwell and King Charles I played in it, this film is excellent. Both Richard Harris and Alec Guiness are perfectly cast as Cromwell and the King respectively and are surrounded by a fine supporting cast. Guiness at times is absolutely spellbinding as a King who slowly realizes that power is slipping from him and his performance is one of the greatest film representations of a Monarch I've ever seen. His trial scene is one of the film's highlights. The sets and costuming are accurate and beautiful depicting 17th century England realistically. I'm probably going to pile up another heap of unhelpful votes by criticizing this moldy oldie, but this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I love older movies, but just just because something is in black-and-white doesn't mean it's a classic. While Novak and Harvey- like most old time movie stars- have a certain sophistication and maturity that is lacking in today's actors, this movie fails because nothing happens to their very uninteresting characters. A medical student falls in love with a lower-class whore, who betrays him and then comes crawling back several times. It was just excruciatingly boring, and the mental anguish was so intense that I had to turn it off even before its denouement, if there even was one.

When Tony Curtis was "hot" in movies, he was invited to play the leading role in this comedy of a ladykiller who weds rich women and then creatively engineers their demise with the help of his valet. Naturally, he runs through his money and needs to try again. It's a very funny film...because the characters don't take themselves too seriously. Trouble brews when Tony Curtis' last catch wants to knock HIM off, because she (mistakenly) thinks he's rich! So finally two lovers get whom they deserve. My favorite episode is the one with Joan Greenwood as an oversexed English lady who loves fox hunting and horses.
