VHS : Sword & The Rose
It's Jolly Olde England, Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon are on the throne, and royal marriages are made to strengthen political ties. Henry wants to cement an alliance with France by marrying his sister Mary to the aged King Louis XII, even though the spunky, flirtatious Mary has set her cap on Charles Brandon, a commoner. Henry prevails, of course, after promising that should Louis die, Mary can then wed anyone of her choosing. As luck would have it, Louis dies a mere two months later, she marries Brandon, and they live happily ever after.

While ignoring any distasteful details about Henry VII, this 1953 Disney drama tells a simple and basically true story and showcases the talented and über-perky Glynis Johns who plays the headstrong princess. She does a fine job, but ... Read More

what can i say that hasn't been said about this classic. it's a great family movie. great way the family comes together to defend itself. great way the boys are entrusted to go out and work for themselves to find a solution. lots of fun and excitement. is a little violent/graphic for a family movie, but no surprises over anything else.

Well as a former US Army Tanker, I am writing this from that view. I had the privilege of serving with good soldiers, who on one occassion watched this movie together, as a company. The critisicm never ended.
I do like the actors in this movie, but the background, tactics and overall unit organizations shown in this picture, were pitiful. I can understand the equipment that had to be used to film this picture, but the dialogue could of been much more based on military reality. I feel that all the sides protrayed in this picture were not done proper justice. They were protrayed as a bunch of amatuers, fighting a war, like hollywood amatuers playing at war. This picture was put together like a bunch of pix up stix, that were put up half way and forgotten.

4.The Longest Day starring: John Wayne, Robert Ryan, Richard Burton, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum
directed by: Andrew Marton, Bernhard Wicki, Darryl F. Zanuck, Ken Annakin

VHS : The Longest Day
This is a 1962 attempt to be an accurate rendition of D day, based on Cornelius Ryan's book, "The Longest Day", when the allied forces of world war two crossed the English Channel and fought their way up the beaches of France. The whole film is of the events of that day.

The list of popular actors playing the parts of the various countries and ethnicities of the time is too long to mention in this review. However Eddy Albert (a method actor) was quite believable and contributed much to the energy of this rendition. Be sure to see Eddy Albert again in uniform in "Teahouse of the August Moon" (1956.) And that little cutie Irina Demark was the girlfriend of the producer, Darryl F. Zanuck.

You can tell this picture was remastered some time recently as it looks as crisp as the day ... Read More

5.The Story of Robin Hood starring: Richard Todd, Joan Rice, Peter Finch, James Hayter, James Robertson Justice

VHS : The Story of Robin Hood
Honestly, I can never have too much Robin Hood. I love each and every take out there, and that includes "The Story of Robin Hood", a little-known live action Disney version from the 1950's. I love the gorgeous Technicolor, the delicate matte painting backgrounds, the folk ballads, the archery, the Richard Todd. More on him in a minute.

It's hard to imagine a more sedate version of the rollicking legend. Not that the film is boring; it isn't. It's just oddly calm. There's action, but no peril, plot, but no ideas. The film is a straightforward telling of the facts, so to speak, but we are never allowed any thrills or chills and there is never any doubt that it'll all turn out right in the end.

The cast is decent, minus any real standouts. Joan Rice is a pretty, tom-boyish Maid Marion, ... Read More

VHS : Those Magnificent Men Their Flying Machines
Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines is the British version of The Magnificent Race but it's more like a ripoff. The film uses the real life 1910 event as the basis for the movie but there aren't any similarities beyond that. It's directed & co-written by Ken Annakin, I have yet to find a reason to recommend anything in his name.

The film has a large pool of stars but almost all of them are B-list entities. The story centers on Orvil Newton (Stuart Whitman),an American from the wild West, who enters the contest. Patricia Rawnsley (Sarah Miles) is the female lead & is the daughter of Lord Rawnsley (Robert Morley) who is the publisher of a newspaper & the one who offers 10,000 pounds to the winner of the London to Paris air race. Richard Mays (James Fox), a British competitor, sort ... Read More

VHS : The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking
I always liked the movies from Pippi Longstocking and I wanted to past my daughter the adventures of Pippi and she seems to love her independent live and adventure games with other kids. I think Pippi should make a new entrance this millenium in the theathers. Lots of kids don't know her and she is fun to wash. I think the part of Pipping being a messy girl should be little less.
