VHS : Pink Flamingos (25th Anniversary Edition)
The songs on this album never cease to make me smile and shake it for all its worth. The mental pictures from the film that each track conjures up is a bonus. Like Mr. Waters points out, these tunes are truly filthy!

VHS : Multiple Maniacs
This is an early effort of John Waters'and is for serious colletors of his works. The movie is poorly made but still has elements of humorous shock value that we've all come to enjoy. The dialogue is often wordy and seems to go on endlessly, but Waters does have a tendency to use a thousand words when he could have used ten. But the film does have some humorous and shocking moments that we look for in his films.

this is a fantastic movie. it's campy and fun and very positive. this movie is a well known and much loved classic. it's entertaining for adults and appropriate for kids (if you're familiar with john waters and have some reservations) my preteen daughter showed it to her friends at her birthday party, and all the girls got up to try out the dances and giggled their heads off. how anyone could even think of comparing it to the travolta crap is beyond me, let alone like the other one better. this is the movie that started the whole thing. the broadway play was ripped off from this movie, and that other version is ripped off from the broadway play. this version is better in every respect. better cast, better writing, better costumes, better music. ricki lake is awesome.

5.Female Trouble starring: Divine, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, Mink Stole, Edith Massey

Divine is a goddess of crime and beauty. Mink Stole steals every scene she is in (for 14 taffy you don't look so good). There are many elements that made there way from this film to Water's big budget Hairspray. Mostly the teenage years. Not for the faint of heart but so funny. This may be Waters first film with a plot.

6.Polyester starring: Divine, Tab Hunter, Edith Massey, David Samson, Mary Garlington

VHS : Polyester
"Polyester" is Douglas Sirk gone wild. Looking for a laugh? Looking to be cheered up on a gloomy day? This film by John Waters is hilarious! Now some people will feel that it is a little dated (1981), but it is dated in the same wonderful way that those sudsy Sirk movies are dated. Except this is the antithesis of those Jane Wyman-Rock Hudson movies. Divine plays Francine Fishpaw, Baltimore housewife and mom. Her husband, Elmer, runs an adult theater and is carrying on an affair with his secretary. Her daughter is pregnant, and her unstable son is terrorizing the city by stomping on unsuspecting women's feet. Her own mother is a thief who belittles Francine every chance she gets. (And you thought you had problems?)

The only support Francine receives is from her best friend, former scrub woman Cuddles ... Read More

This one is the first of the Prince Of Puke- John Waters' "MastUrpieces" that you can see. It is silent, except for all the cheesy 50's "trash music" that Waters is infamous for using, and also poorly lip sync'd vain babbling by our HIroine, the fabulous 300 pound monstrosity, Divine!

Follow Divine's treck down the yellow brick road, when she gets involved in the life of Mary Vivian Pierce, runs her over, then attempts to "save" her through the services of the Virgin Mary and Doctor Coathanger!

You can see that Divine has such unlimited talent just waiting to be exploited in mastUrpieces like Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Polyester, Lust in the Dust and Hairspray.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are and BE that young lady who fell from a star! Baltimore they said was the name of the star!" ... Read More

VHS : Desperate Living
The first time I saw "Pink Flamingos," something seemed oddly familiar. I later realized it was the "acting." The actors delivered their lines with the conviction and subtlety of a Jr. High School play. This element coupled with the cruelly insightful, almost profound nature of what is being said is a trademark of John Waters. It softens the blow somewhat.

"Desperate Living" still delivers an abundance of Waters' trademark irony in action, but, there's a catch. Two catch's, really. Firstly, there is somewhat convincing acting from several key roles. It might sound like a letdown, but it actually enhances the story. The second aberration is the absence of Waters' workhorse Divine. Proving that he could succeed on his own wit alone, Waters made his funniest film ever.

Fans of "Flamingos" might be disappointed by the lack ... Read More

10.Zane Grey's Man Of the Forest starring: Jack Holt, Georgia Hale, El Brendel, Warner Oland, Tom Kennedy

VHS : Zane Grey's Man Of the Forest
First of all, this is not the Jack Holt version of the Zane Grey's Man of the Forest so don't believe what you read here. It is the Randolph Scott version. The print is decent, but it had tracking problems in certain areas. Otherwise it would have been excellent. This is, however, a very well done, produced, and enjoyable Western enhanced by the fine direction of Henry Hathaway. It is full of surprises and makes interesting use of a number of mountain lions in a unusal telling of a familar story.
