There is probably problems with licensing parts of the Soundtrack... One Part in particular ~ The Dead Kennedy's song playing while they are all in the Kitchen... Holiday in Cambodia. There have been lawsuits over this song between band members and Jello Biafra when Levi's wanted to use it in a commercial. Royalty payment disputes and the like. It has probably killed any chance of getting this film released on DVD.

VHS : The Karate Kid Part II
Following Daniel-San's (Macchio) triumphant, albeit incredibly improbable, victory at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament, there is little time to celebrate. Mr. Miyagi (Morita) gets a letter from Okinawa informing him that his father is dying. He knows this is a potentially deadly situation because of an old grudge with his former best friend Sato. Nonetheless, Miyagi let's the recently dumped Daniel-San (it was only a matter of time before Elisabeth Shue realized she was dating a sissy) come along for the trip.

Upon arriving in Okinawa, Miyagi soon realizes that he has very little time. Not only will his father die very soon, but his former best friend Sato - who incidentally has a watermelon for a head - wants to fight him to the death. It turns out that Miyagi left ... Read More

I thoroughly enjoyed this coming-of-age movie. It dealt with teenage love, sex, marriage, and grown-up responsibilities with compassion, honesty, and humor. I do not think it trivialized teen pregnancy at all, but rather showed both its hardships and the ability to do it right if one tries and has support. I fully recommend it to all ages.

VHS : 8 Seconds
After being directed by Amazon's recommendation to "8 Seconds," and reading the reviews, I thought that this would be an enjoyable film and purchased it. I am not a big rodeo fan, but I do enjoy them once in a while; and I have been friends with several bull riders. While I enjoyed the film, I cannot say that it really helped me to know more about Lane Frost (portrayed by Luke Perry), his life, career, his relationships with other performers, or his marriage. Indeed, after watching the film, I found myself looking up more information about Lane Frost on the internet to help me make more sense out of the movie.

What I missed most in the film was the sense of Lane's apparent true love for both his wife and for bull riding. They are essentially implied; that is, the viewer must assume ... Read More

VHS : Power of One
I think this is one of the best films Ive ever seen. Based on the novel of the same name, the film documents the life of a young British lad coming of age in South Africa in the late early 1940's. PK is sent off to a Dutch Boarding school following the nervous breakdown of his mother. There he undergoes a solitary right of passage hated by the other boys for his ethnic background. PK undergoes egregious psychological and physical abuse at the hands of the oldest boy.

He returns home to confide in his Nanny following the death of his mother. She then calls on a Sangoma (Shaman) of her tribe who renders a healing ceremony to PK, noting prophetically that he "is a man for all of Africa."

This film dramatically follows archetypal themes of the heroes journey. PK is then off to ... Read More

This movie is full of inspiration! I really liked the no nonsense, "take no prisoners" approach Joe Clark had to getting his school back into shape. What makes THIS movie superior to "Stand and Deliver" is that there's actually drama in this one. It shows just how tough inner city schools can be.

In these types of schools, the biggest problem is generally NOT whether or not they can pass a Calculus test... it's whether they can survive long enough to make it to the end of the school day!

In "Stand and Deliver" I kept waiting for some big event to take place (other than the passing of the test they took), but it never happened. "Lean on Me" was FULL of such scenes! Nonstop action!! Some scenes ARE violent, though, so be careful if there are kids in the room!

Nice to see that they put "3" and the "next karate kid" on one disc... I feel less wasteful throwing those away, because let's face it.. they don't count.
Plus, this is cheaper than buying 1 and 2 separate.

This is another gem that should be on dvd. Why is it so hard for good movies to be placed on dvd while so many below par and bad movies are?
