VHS : Short Circuit
This is a good movie, however, I expected more from a bluray version. Film quality is bad - it does not seem to have been post-processed at all to improve the image quality beyond the original film. Poor analog to digital transfer. If you own a DVD or even VCR version of this movie, don't bother repurchasing it.

I had not seen this film in a few years, so I decided to give it another look. The film is fast paced and will keep your heart pumping through it's 88 minute running time. Depp and Walken add credibility to the incredible story! So.... When reviewing a movie like this I ask myself, what were the film makers trying to accomplish? This is not Citizen Kane, it's a slickly made intense thriller with a few minor flaws! If you don't think about it too long or seriously you will enjoy this movie. The last two minutes are a bit of a disappointment because of the "Hollywood" ending, but up until then it's a fun ride! Is it somewhat far fetched ....absolutely, do I care?.........absolutely NOT! The DVD has a nice transfer, but only a trailer for bonus material.

VHS : Dracula (1979)
This 1979 version of Dracula is a beautiful film, harkening back to the old classic style horror film. Wonderfully cast, Frank Langella is a compelling Dracula, in an underplayed and very naturalistic performance, brimming with charm, elegence and intensity. Likewise Kate Nelligan, Lord Laurence Olivier and Donald Pleasance also give very memorable performances. The film is light on gore, stately paced and heavy on beautiful and engrossing gothic atmosphere. The sets, locations, costumes and overall production design are truly grand and the cinematography is gorgeous. John Williams provides the film with a score that fits perfectly and is one of his very best (which is really saying something) - perfectly displayed in the wonderfully psychedelic "wedding" scene designed by Maurice Bender. A modern version of an ... Read More

VHS : Incognito (1997)
Art forger Harry Donovan (Jason Patric) agrees to one last job before making dad happy by giving up the shamming and pursuing his own art. His last job's a lulu, too - paint a `lost' Rembrandt. Lost off the coast of Spain centuries ago with no surviving copies.

It's a solid enough premise around which to build a movie. Films about obsessive people tend to be interesting, and expert art forgers - Donovan is supposed to be one of the best - have to be obsessive. And it's easy to get swept up in films that pursue their own idiosyncratic obsessions. Creating the perfect forgery seems a natural. How does the crook outwit the experts? Where are the pitfalls on the trail to the perfect fake?

INCOGNITO cares about some of that stuff, but it cares about more, too much more, besides. To begin with ... Read More
