VHS : Native Son (1986)
I understand the perspectives of the other online-reviewers; however, being an English teacher, I have found this video to be quite beneficial and complimentary in assisting me and helping my students to understand the characterization and themes in Native Son. It is not an outstanding performance; however, it does offer a color cinematic version, while having actors that are recongnizable to a younger generation.

I do not believe that many outstanding novels can ever really be properly and accurately portryaed on film; that is really a daunting task for directors, writers, and producers. To this date, I can only say that The Color Purple has actually achieved cinematic success, due in large part to the creative genius of Steven Spielberg. That is a rarity.

I dig most Bronson movies anyway so I'm a bit biased. A fav of mine from the 80s and I have not seen it since then. What I want to know is why is this selling for $47 ??? Oh well I'll have to wait a little longer. Sorry this was not a review but just me venting. A movie I will get someday but just not right now for this price. A good 3 star movie.

VHS : The Boy Who Drank Too Much
I saw this movie when it was made and really enjoyed it but besides that it showed me what drinking can do as i had a friend at the time who drank. i think it is a great movie and would hope that if any kid today could see it they might be helped by it. Today about 18 years later i still abstain from drinking and my friend is a heavy drinker.

Let me say one word - dumb. The characters in this movie do not show too much intelligence. It's a movie about twisted ideas of love, twisted sex and twisted individuals. Why this may sound like it appeals to you in the beginning you will quickly find out that it won't Sam Elliott should take this movie off his resume.

Flashing back and forth from a police interrogation room to events of the past it is not hard to follow but at times it doesn't flow smoothly. It's a murder mystery. A who dunnit. A man is being questioned about the murder of a woman's husband, a woman he wants badly. Did she kill the husband or did he? Or someone else? What happened to the woman now, is she dead? Lots of questions to ask, if you can get through the dumbness and the kinky nympho scenes.

What would you do for ... Read More

VHS : Family Sins
The family in this TV movie consists of a mother, father, and two boys. The older boy, Bryan, is having a lot of issues and this worthless claptrap would have us believe it is mostly the father's fault.

What does Dad do that's so awful? Well, for starters he wants to teach Bryan to be a better baseball player and show him how to get in front of ground balls. He also wants Bryan to stop lying to him and once in a while actually show some responsibility. The father also has the nerve to get angry when poor, misunderstood Bryan decides to kill a pet rabbit. What a monster that ol' Pops is!!

Does the father abuse Bryan? No. Does he ignore Bryan or spend all his time berating his sensitive son? Um...no. Jill Eikenberry's portrayal of the mother makes you want to shake some sense into ... Read More
