I somehow missed this one until now. What a gem! With such great acting, outrageously funny plot and exquisite music, no matter that it's only remotely historical. And with all its silliness, it also has some interesting character revelations. I've been collecting movies about classical composers, and this is now one of my favorites.

3.Life With Mikey starring: Michael J. Fox, Christina Vidal, Nathan Lane, Cyndi Lauper, David Krumholtz

VHS : Life With Mikey
Life with Mikey - Michael J Fox is on brilliant form in this entertaining, and occasionally poignant, comedy about growing up, responsibility, and child talent agencies.
The movie is funny in a way that only Nathan Lane and Michael J. Fox could provide, and Cyndi Lauper is adorable as the receptionist. It isn't as touchingly romantic, or as hilarious, as Doc Hollywood but it is another great example of the comedic acting talent of it's cast and especially its leading man.

4.Table Settings starring: Stockard Channing, Mindy Cohn, Eileen Heckart, Robert Klein, James Kushner
directed by: James Lapine

VHS : Stephen Sondheim's Passion (Original Broadway Cast)
I love Sondheim. He is a god to me. Every work of his I've ever seen is one I've loved - Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Company, Sunday in the Park With George. I ordinarily credit him with all the greatness of each musical, despite the profound efforts of his collaborators - Lapine, Furth, Wheeler, etc. - because I always feel that his score and his lyrics so perfectly capture the entire essence of the characters and the play itself that the writers deserve very little credit. However, that is not the case in Passion.

Don't get me wrong - the music is gorgeous (I hear a little Sweeney in there), and the lyrics are great. They just aren't his best. I didn't feel the characters quite as strongly through the music as I did through the scenes, which just isn't usual for a Sondheim show. Hence ... Read More
