VHS : Penitentiary 3
How this movie has failed to make it to DVD is a SIN. Probably the funniest movie ever made left to be only found in the aisles of your lost VHS stores, but maybe there's hope in the future.

PT3 is about as outlandish and hilarious as you'll ever find in an action flick that relies on a 4 foot crack smoking midget to be the, ball snuggling against your face to suffocate you, villian. Only to finish off with him being some wise sage of the cage helping the main character win at the big fight. That's right, "the midnight thud" who in the middle of the night gets dropped off in a sack in your cell when you're considered a problem with your inmates, becomes the hero in the end.

You'll never have another experience in your life after watching this movie. There's nothing ... Read More

VHS : Black Sister's Revenge
I was lucky, or unlucky, enough to see this movie Fri. night 3/21/08 on the TCM channel. This is what you get when you can't sleep. By the way, it was followed by Penitentiary, but I digress. This movie hooked me like a roadside fatality car accident, I didn't want to look, but I couldn't look away. The acting was awful, but the story was interesting; it showed the lengths a sister would go to for her man, when she ain't got nothing to lose and she is from "Sippi" or Mississippi for the unhip. And, let those last five minutes be a lesson to those of you who don't know that "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". Especially a country black woman who has robbed a bank to bring about the release of her man from the big house.

I'm going to buy this movie right now so I can watch ... Read More

This film was really good. Writer and director Jamaa Fanaka was still a student at UCLA and Penitentiary was the first starring vehicle for former disc jockey and future evangelist Leon Isaac Kennedy. If you don't know the story it goes like this; Too Sweet (Leon Isaac Kennedy) is charged with murder, and convicted despite his innocence; he's shipped off to a run-down prison where Jesse Amos (Donovan Womack), one of the prisoners, lords it over the other inmates. Too Sweet ends up sharing a cell with Half Dead (Badja Djola), a violent lunatic who is one of Jesse's musclemen. Too Sweet refuses to buckle under to the intimidation dished out by Half Dead and his cronies, even after seeing how they've "turned out" Eugene (Thommy Pollard), another new fish who has become Jesse's sexual slave. Forced to defend ... Read More

This movie is my favorite blaxploitation flick of all time...the big problem is that the xenon versions of the movie are cut. There's some sleazy video store in the neighborhood that has the un-cut vhs version. I have no idea why xenon buys the rights then cuts up the film.

I'm not sure what these other people are talking or even thinking about this horrible trash that is this film. Before I give it to this flick let me start off about the films from this period. I love and own several films from this era Foxy Brown, Truck Turner, Slaughter, Slaughter's big ripoff and of Course Superfly, The Mack and The dolemite collection. All great films with a ton of cheese cinema classics. This film belongs into another genre all to itself, it's horribly written, directed and acted. There is no continuity and the plot is all over the place! What's worse is the quality of the film is horrendous even for something of this age it appears it was recorded using a betamax home video camera. I would suggest you do not waste your money or listen to the reviews of anyone who states this film was worth ... Read More

Folks use that cliche' meaning someone is basically caught up in a situation.
Sugarpop (Alan Joseph Wone) ends up in "the life" on the strength of his relatives involvement.
His 17 year old choices are wiser than his age, yet he is not as viscious as many would have been given the same circumstances.
Wone plays this role very natural, without a lot of the overacting I've seen in my time.
The movie has a different kind of twist, and I say CHECK IT OUT!!!!
