VHS : Tarantula (1955)
This is a classic 50's sci-fi movie about a giant tarantula terrorizing a small town. Very good special effects and a very well written story make this one a top notch sci-fi adventure! Look close in the final moments of the film as it is a young Clint Eastwood who saves the day as the jet squadron leader who saves the day! Even when he was just starting out he was a hero! This is a must have movie and is part of a 5 movie collection called Classic Sci Fi Ultimate Collection! Don't confused this with "Earth VS the Spider" which is good too! The DVD transfer is sweet! "CB" Harry saves the day again!

VHS : Creature From the Black Lagoon
This was my first "monster" film. I can remember the stir that it caused when it was first released and remember that my mother would not allow me to attend. Now telling an ten year old boy that there is "forbidden fruit" at the local cinema, and telling him that there was no way he was going to attend, is a pretty sure fire way of getting that kid in the theater, one way or another. Yup, I went. (I fear this is indicative of a character trait, or flaw, if you will, that is with me still, after all these years). You have to remember that this was in 1954 and things were quite different. We lived in a very small town, Southern and quite conservative, and ticket prices at the time were .10 cents for kids under twelve, and there was no rating system. Anyway, this movie absolutely terrified me, and ... Read More

I am looking for the episode of Saturday live when Jesse Jackson read Green Egg & Ham as a tribute to the death of Dr. Seuss. I believe that this episode aired on September 24, 1991 the day Dr. Seuss died. September 28, 1991 Michael Jordan / Public Enemy

I saw this at the walk-in in the 60s when I was a little tyke and just loved it. I saw it on TV in the 90s and since I was living in Southern California I knew where the hood was so I searched one day and I found the house! It is in Calabasas right off the 101 and Mulholland Highway. I loved the finned cars and the gorgeous women. Damn, that Bob Hope was one lucky Bachelor. When it comes out on DVD I will buy it.

VHS : The Hardy Boys - Mystery of Witches Hollow
The Hardy Boys-Nancy Drew, for people of my generation (25-30), is a sad nostalgia trip - sad because we were almost too young to remember the whole series in 1977-1979, and it ended so soon. It was well done - not necessarily the (dated) music permeating almost every episode, but the whole ambience of late '70's life. While Parker Stevenson fits the role of Frank Hardy well, and his acting is decent, I find Shaun Cassidy's less impressive (I realize many people buy these videos for Cassidy - if so, enjoy, he's here in abundance in every episode). The real unsung draw of several 1977 episodes, and especially this one, is Lisa Eilbacher as Callie Shaw - in my humble opinion the greatest of American actresses. This is early Eilbacher, and she easily out-acts everyone else. For a follow-up pairing Stevenson and Eilbacher, ... Read More

VHS : The Incredible Shrinking Man
Although I don't normally assign a 'larger meaning' or social commentary to movies. (I prefer to see them as purely 'Escapist' entertainment) This is one of those times when it works on both levels. If you look at 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' as social commentary you see the world has changed in the post WWII days, it has become a very large, very scary place. Suddenly, the world is much bigger than your home, street, city or even your state. With mass transportation, the automobile, highways, air travel and television. Space flight is just around the corner. With the start of the 'Cold War' and the sudden threat of 'Nuclear Annihilation' people feel small, helpless and insignificant in the face of a world that has suddenly exploded into your 'Space' and can no longer be easily ignored or seen as somewhere far away.
