VHS : Stuart Saves His Family
There are about ten laughs in this film by smarmfart Al Franken. Worth seeing once.

But Franken's brilliant creation is Stuart himself.

Full disclosure: I loath Franken's politics and most of his other humour, but this work is a brilliant exception.

Stuart Saves his family is an overlong extension of a SNL skit about "Stuart" the over twelve-stepped psychological casualty of our continuously self-indulgent selves. Rather than overcome his traumas, Stuart nurses them like a bacteriological growth in an inner Petri dish. He stumbles through a series of activities where his therapiezed world view provides conflict with others functioning normally (operating thetans), and abnormally (everyone in his family). I never really got the works of LRH, but his paranoia ... Read More

VHS : Multiplicity
Michael Keaton and Andie MacDowell fit together perfectly in this film about cloning yourself to meet the demands of your life. Unbelievable photography enables you to visualize the "clones" altogether in certain scenes and amazing variances in Keaton's character portrails really cause you to jump right into the story. Great love story and truly rare humor easily make this a keeper and a 5 star rating.

Disc always stops at the same location about 20 minutes into play, I am able to navigate forward to get it playing again but that ruins the movie. Defect discovered months after purchase, I plan to buy another in HD DVD or DVD format.

VHS : Analyze That (P&S Dol)
Robert DeNiro and Billy Crystal return as mobster Paul Vitti and psychiatrist Dr. Sobel. In five minutes it reminds you of pretty much every running gag from the first movie, in fine fashion. Which is funnier? That's a BS question, Joel Siegel. Both are a pleasure. This film manages to trot out the tired old "gangsters want to make movies about gangsters" gimmick without boring me. I suspect I didn't appreciate Jelly enough the first time around. He's awesome.

VHS : Analyze This
I know that "Analyze This" was marketed as a comedy but is a movie that makes fun of a man being thrown out of a seven story window really that funny? Robert DeNiro spoofs his gangster image (four letter words and all) as Paul Vitti the gangster who turns psychiatrist Ben Sobol's (Billy Crystal)life upside down when he turns up for therapy sessions. Director Ramis seems to have had trouble in drawing the line between a comedy spoof and a straight gangster drama. I mean there are brutal murders taking place all over this movie. The situation where Crystal walks into a gangster summit meeting unopposed is hard to believe. These are supposed to be the smartest criminal minds in the U.S. not dumb gangsters. There are some good comedic moments in the film, however one never knows when and where to take the plot ... Read More

My husband and I saw this in the theater when it was released 22 years ago; when it was released on VHS, it was one of the first movies we bought; when it came out on DVD (FINALLY!) we bought it and celebrated. This movie is fantastic - classic Robin Williams, classic soundtrack. We quote this one all the time, too.

We like to watch this one, and follow it up with Captain Ron for a full night of Caribbean cult classics.
