VHS : Sun Valley Serenade
This is one of my favorite "feel good" movies of all time. A lot of fun (with a YOUNG Milton Berle) and some of the BEST mucic ever filmed. Have a heart and bring this out!!!!

VHS : The Desert Song
I love old musicals and think Gordon MacRae was one of the greatest singers of all times. I have quite a collection of these, including an out-of-print copy of "Deep In My Heart," the story of Sigmund Romberg's career. I also have "The Student Prince." This movie, "The Desert Song," was really fun to watch and filled with great music. The acting of some of these old singers is not as great as their singing, but if you like the old musicals the way I do, this is one of the best. My only regret is that so many of them are only available on VHS and have not been made into DVD format.

VHS : Iceland
In the wake of the brilliant Sun Valley Serenade, Fox again cast Sonja with John Payne under the helm of H. Bruce Humberstone. Iceland is not as good as Sun Valley, but her skating is her best. The music is first rate, though the words hilarious(promoting the girls to let soldiers have fun with them, they might not come back hehehe). Sonja proves once again that she was a comic talent, but the stagefarce-plot is much too much at times... However; the musicalnumbers are a treat and u should always watch it for that reason alone.

VHS : To the Shores of Tripoli
Okay, Okay - by modern standards, this film is very hokey. A real flag-waver that gets cheesier as it progresses. But I love the on-screen combination and chemistry of Maureen O'Hara and John Payne. Their first of 4 films together, this movie was actually being film when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The script and ending were quickly changed to reflect the headlines and the sentiment of the day. The film was rushed in to theaters within a few months of completion and became a big poster for enlistment.
Most modern audiences know Payne and O'Hara from the Christmas classic, "Miracle on 34th Street", which is their third pairing. Their second ("Sentimental Journey" ) and forth ("Tripoli", a Paramount release) are not available on either VHS or DVD - what a shame.

VHS : I Wake Up Screaming
I Wake Up Screaming is one of quite a few films that give the lie to the notion that Victor Mature couldn't act, with his likeable press agent very different in tone and delivery from many of his roles. But good as he is, it's Laird Cregar's creepy cop patiently and cheerfully (well, as cheerfully as he can manage) shadowing him and turning up everywhere like a bad penny who dominates the film - this is a guy who makes Hank Quinlan look like a poster boy for acceptable face of law enforcement without even raising so much as his voice. Terrific dialogue and a cast of likely suspects from Alan Mowbray to Elisha Cook Jr. actually gives this one a convincing whodunit element - you actually do start wondering if Mature could be guilty towards the end. Great stuff.

VHS : Hello Frisco Hello
I remember seeing this movie in the 40's when musicals were the top draws. How I wish they still made movies like this. Alice Faye and John Payne were wonderful stars & their singing of "Hello, Frisco, Hello" & "You'll Never Know" brought back wonderful memories. All the other musical acts & songs were great & the actors of that era, Jack Oakie, June Havoc, Lynn Bari & the others made for a most pleasant 99 minutes of movie viewing. I'm so glad it finally has been put on DVD.

A must have for Danny Kaye fans. This is one where I still laugh the same as the first time I saw it as a kid.

8.Tarzan & The Trappers (B&W) starring: Gordon Scott, Eve Brent, Rickie Sorensen, Cheeta, Leslie Bradley

VHS : Tarzan & The Trappers (B&W)
"Tarzan and the Trappers" is edited together from three episodes of a potential television series that was rejected. Now, granted, at face value that bit of information should send animals running from through the jungle, but Gordon Scott is one of the better Tarzans and this black & white film certainly exceeds low expectations, even with all the clips of jungle scenes re-edited from previous Tarzan films. The plot is an old Tarzan standard where the Lord of the Jungle has to stop the a bad guy, the evil Schroeder (Leslie Bradley) in this case, from illegally trapping animals for zoos. However, once Schroeder is stopped it turns out he has a brother, Sikes (Sol Gorss), a big game hunter who is even worse and who wants to turn the tables on Tarzan by stalking the Ape Man (pretend for a second this is not ... 9.Charlie Chan: At the Opera starring: Warner Oland, Boris Karloff, Keye Luke, William Demarest, Guy Usher

VHS : Charlie Chan: At the Opera
1937's "Charlie Chan at the Opera" is a better than average episode in the long running Charlie Chan series. Warner Oland stars as the titular Honolulu Police Detective, with Keye Luke as Number One Son, while Boris Karloff has an outstanding guest role as an escaped mental patient now haunting an opera house in the manner of "The Phantom of the Opera."

The story opens with Karloff's escape from a mental institution, then presents a murder at an Opera House to draw in Charlie Chan. Chan is his usual inscrutable self in his police work, with veteran character actor William Demarest (Uncle Charlie of "My Three Sons") as his none-too-bright foil on the local police force. The plot itself is filled with the usual collection of suspects and more than the usual number of red herrings; only the most attentive ... Read More

VHS : Ten Wanted Men
Director H Bruce Humberstone specialised in detective movies and musicals and his lacklustre direction of this rugged Western may be explicable for that reason .It needed a genre specialist to lift out of the routine but watchable picture we are confronted with in Ten Wanted Men

Randolph Scott plays John Steward , a prosperous Arizona rancher who brings his lawyer brother to the area to help in the imposition of law and order.Steward's most implacable enemy is locasl saloon owner and businessman Wick Campbell whose anger is further fuelled when his mistress ,tired of Campbell's jealousy and abusive seeks sanctuary at Steward's ranch .Campbell hires a bunch of ne'er do well gunslingers (including Leo Gordon and Lee Van Cleef ,both excellent ).He does not scruple to kill to obtaian more land and to rustle Steward's ...
