Goldfinger
Sean Connery returns to play the super-secret-agent fot the third time, following Dr.No and From Russia with Love. I saw this in my Dad's home-theatre. He is, a great Sean Connery Fan and has all the Connery films in his collection. Gert Frobe is the villian of the title in the company of Oddjob. Bernard Lee returns as M and Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny. The script by Paul Dehn and Richard Maibaum is well plotted and entertaining. But the best part is still the titles. John Barry wrote the great music.
Even in the tiny town of Coonoor, in the Nilgiris Mountain ranges, the film ran to packed houses, and Connery became a house-hold name.

VHS : The James Bond Collection
Okay, these sets suck. Come on, this is James friggin' Bond here!!! We can do better than this. Here's my idea of how to handle the Bond box sets, and with any luck in 2010 they'll this to me. As much as I'd love to see one huge box set, that just wouldn't work. First of all it would be simply too big and too expensive, and second of all with new Bond movies every few years it would be out of date rather quickly. So do them by decades. Dig it - the Bond collection volume 1: The 60's. You could do all the movies released after 62's Dr. No but before 1970, and still have room for a really cool bonus disc. Granted, some volumes would be heftier than others (the 90's would be a bit slim), but with no end in sight for the Bond franchise this seems the best way too go. Plus, if you're like me, your a completist. ... Read More

The TV picture was awesome. Lots of action with great action. What also really impressed me was the sound, If you are a World War II movie fan, then this is a must addition to your library.
I purchased this picture as a gift for my son who lives and works in Thailand. I was concerned that it wouldn't play on his Play Station 3 Japanese unit. FYI it worked just fine.

VHS : Bond: Live & Let Die
Roger Moore's maiden voyage as James Bond -- and the third different actor in the role in three consequetive films -- is actually a fairly entertaining movie with the usual set pieces, babes, and Moore's laid back performance. Tom Mankowicz (who wrote for both Connery and Moore) had the best observation. In the scene where Moore enters the Fillet of Soul in Harlem, if you have Connery you know there is going to be a fight. Jane Seymour's big break, Yaphet Koto as Kananga/Mr. Big, Julius Harris as his henchman "T" and David Hedison in his first outing as Bond's CIA buddy Felix Leiter. The first 007 since DR. NO not to be scored by John Barry, the music is courtesy of Sir George Martin (who produced the Beatles records) with a title song (and an energetic one at that) by Paul McCartney and Wings. A pleasant romp, I actually ... Read More

VHS : Devil's Disciple (1959)
This is one of my favorite movies. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas are in thier prime, both sexy and studley. If they really had ministers like Lancaster, I'd never miss church. The story, adapted from a play is a bit stagey, but it's very enjoyable. I liked the black and white photography as well. The best part of this picture is Lawrence Olivier as General Burgoyne. He is just so fantastic. He steals every scene he's in and the wordplay between him and Kirk Douglas is really entertaining.
Also the score is very good. It's a nice movie and I can remember seeing this in the movies with my grandmother when I was 8. It still brings back great memories.

Not a bad collection of Bond material, however, this is a mix of various Bond movies with a variety of leading Bond actors. I recommend looking into the 1996 Collections that have the videos in chronological order and primarily by actor. JAMES BOND 007 Collector's Set, Vol. 1 includes all six Broccoli-produced Sean Connery Bond films, to include a 1995 documentary video. JAMES BOND 007 Collector's Set, Vol 2 includes all seven Roger Moore films and Timothy Dalton's first film. Although these sets are out-of-print, they are still available as used and collector's sets through Amazon.com's Marketplace. If you're like most fans, you'd prefer to have the movies that include your own favorite "leading-Bond-man"!
