I am not a huge Steve Martin fan, but this film stands alone as his best work. He wrote the screenplay, and then delivers his best acting job by ten miles above any other of his other films. It is quite simply a masterpiece. It is hilarious, witty, romantic, wonderfully filmed, perfectly cast and excellently directed! If you've seen any other Steve Martin movie and thought they were just too stupid to waste your time on, don't lump this film in with those. It stands alone and well above. It is a fabulous film to see again and again!

VHS : The Devil's Playground
THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND IS A MOVIE LIKE NONE OTHER.

IT TELLS ABOUT THE TABOOS IN THIS WORLD THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO WANT TO TALK ABOUT. WHETHER IT BE IN A CATHOLIC SCHOOL FOR BOYS, A CATHOLIC SCHOOL FOR GIRLS OR JUST IN THE TYPICAL EVERYDAY HOME. EXCEPT THIS STORY WAS IN A CATHOLIC SCHOOL FOR BOYS.

JUST WISH THEY WOULD COME OUT WITH A MOVIE, AN ENHANCED VERSION OF THE VERY SAME BOYS, WHERE MORE IS TOLD ABOUT THE BOYS, THAN WITH THE PRIESTS.

VHS : A Cry in the Dark
I missed this true news story, but the movie recreates the group witch hunt that chased this Aussie couple to the penitentiary for a crime they never committed. Rumors, innuendo, boredom and group think were some of the factors involved. The film does a good job with it all, and the Aussie mood and landscapes are captured well. Streep is great, and Sam Neill is ok as the religious father caught up in the '80s craziness.

B-A-R-B-A-R-O-S-A!!!!!!! The best, by far of the Willie Westerns. Both lead performances (Nelson & Busey) are what you would expect from each actor, yet at the same time over the top and flawless. A must have for any western fan even though it is pan-scan 4:3. Let us hope that we soon get a proper widescreen version, Please!

VHS : Six Degrees of Separation
I had heard many good things about `Six Degrees of Separation', especially when in regards to Will Smith's performance. Finally, a few nights back, I had the chance to check it out and I must say that Will Smith is not the only reason to watch this fantastic film; in fact there is so much good going here I'm shocked the only recognition the film received was a mere Best Actress nomination for Stockard Channing (who is phenomenal).

The film follows Louisa (Ouisa) and John (Flan) Kittredge as they recount their dealings with con-man Paul, a young African American who claims to be school friends with their children, and son of the famous Sidney Poitier. Paul shows up at their front door claiming to have been mugged. He's bleeding and says that his dear friends, Woody and Tess, told him that their parents ... Read More

If you loved "A Fish Called Wanda" you will love this movie. So incredibly funny I laugh so hard even though I've seen it over a dozen times. All the characters mesh so well and the story line is beyond hilarious. It's on my "must have" list.

I was surfing one night and started watching this movie from the middle which is where I came in. I was so happy to see a totally family friendly movie that didn't play down to adults but can entertain almost everyone in the family that I looked to find it again on tv. After seeing it from the start I had to order it to add to my extensive collection of movies. You can't have a bad time watching, Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, Walter Matthau and Tony Shaluob (forgive the miss spelling)plus many others. It is entertaining and amusing. What a wonderful way to relax on a gray day or just if you want something to entain you without frightening or scaring you. This will give you a warm fuzzy feeling afterwards which is a nice change from the violence in movies today. Somethings are just worth watching for sheer enjoyment and for ... Read More

VHS : Plenty (1985)
It seems a cheap shot to say that there's not much to Plenty, but Meryl Streep's rather wearingly one-note performance does tend to show up the thinness of the material. Despite his penchant for bombastic metaphor and excruciatingly on-the-nose dialogue, David Hare's adaptation of his play feels rather closer to naturalism than usual, but when the woman whose dilemma at the heart of his big theme is so resoundingly one-note you do feel as if you're just being told the same thing over and over again. Streep is the former SOE worker who, like Britain itself, was at her best and most noble during the war but struggles to come to terms with the post-war reality of stagnation, emptiness and missed opportunities in a country whose soul-crushing bureaucracy grows as its empire shrinks. Which is a perfectly serviceable metaphor for ... Read More
