Contrary to popular belief ... there are more than one kind of Catholic. There is the Roman Catholics who demand celibacy of clergy while the seven Eastern Rite (Byzantine Catholics) allows their priests to marry in Europe. Marriage was not a sacrament until sometime around 1000 AD when the Church added it to its list. Why shouldn't a priest be allowed to take holy orders and marriage vows at the same time? When Jesus taught he is referred to as Rabbi in the scripture, which during his day, was a term reserved only for marrried Jewish men. I am not stating anything about my views on theories that Christ was married but that .... if he was ... and if Eastern Catholics can ... why not those in Rome?

The late Christopher Reeve plays an ambitious American Priest and WW2 vet who arrives in ... Read More

Three teens vacationing with their parents on Fire Island during the late 1960's forge a bond out of friendship, sexual longing and boredom. The catalyst for this bond is Sandy, a beautiful bikini clad 16 year old who is discovered by Peter and Dan as she attempts to rescue a seagull that has swallowed a fishing line. When Rhoda, a pudgy, straight-laced girl enters the threesome, she becomes the incorruptible moral conscience of the group, and a threat to Sandy's dominance over the two boys. The resulting conflict brings into question the ability of logic and reason to counter the primal power of carnal desire. In an environment free from moral or physical constraints, human beings, if left to their own devices, will digress to their baser natures. Last Summer is a film that grabs you by your senses - the ... Read More

Okay, so I'm not here to debate whether or not Christina Crawford's memoir was accurate or not, or whether or not this movie portrays Crawford in a light worthy of her because I never knew her and so I cannot judge. I hear people defend this film and its interpretation of the screen legend, and then I hear people ambush this film as if it were a production of the antichrist.

Fact remains that the film, regardless of authentic merit, is really bad.

That isn't to say that it isn't entertaining, for if I said that I'd be lying; but the film is far from a great movie. It is a camp classic, but the sad part is that that was not the films initial intent. No, this was supposed to be a dramatic representation of child abuse, and instead it became a nightmarish comedy. Every scene is ... Read More

VHS : Truman Capote's a Christmas Memory
While this has been my favorite Christmas movie since it first came out, and I love to watch it every year, I bought a used video from a seller on Amazon, and was so disappointed in it. The sound is so bad that it is almost unwatchable. A movie with the caliber of acting that this one offers should be as much a classic as It's a Wonderful Life, and be treated as such, not sold as a cheap copy. It deserves to be cleaned up and offered on DVD in high quality, so everyone can discover what a gem it really is.

I remember being interested in ads for this movie when it was first released in theaters, but did not end up seeing it until years later. I recently rediscovered the movie in a box of old tapes. Unable to remember much about it, I watched it twice more. This made me appreciate the film more, but also reminded me of its flaws and limitations.

A sleazy, tacky, womanizing dentist (Joe Mantegna) serving an upscale New York suburb is murdered in his office one night. A new patient (Susan Sarandon) is drawn into an amateur investigation of the case, rekindling her own spirits and interests. She is the unassuming, dowdy housewife of an egotistical, stressed-out, button-down corporate law firm attorney (Edward Herrmann). Years ago, she was a reporter.

Many in her circle of female friends and neighbors are ... Read More
