VHS : Out On A Limb
Our entire family loves this flick. Its a slapstick riot to be sure and the two Jims really make the movie. It boggles the mind that this hasnt seen a DVD release yet. I bet I could come up with a list of 1000 other flicks that are much less deserving, but yet we move on to blueray and Hi-Def with no release in sight for this comedy gem. Maybe the execs in charge of this release are all "tankin up" :<)

VHS : The Dinner Game
This comic masterpiece was as big a riot for me as it was in my first viewing some 7 years prior, and it does indeed recall the satire of Moliere. However, this time I started to find the cruelty in the premise gnawing a bit at my conscience. Perhaps it was the chance in a second viewing to study the characters more than the plot, whereby Monsieur Pignon appeared too affectionate and likeable to ridicule for sport. I might have even tweaked the ending to inflict the final comeuppance on Pierre with NO help from Pignon. Then I slapped myself in the face with a reminder that THIS IS AFTERALL JUST A FARCE, with Pignon in the end no less a fool than, say, Stan of "Laurel & Hardy" or Norton of "The Honeymooners". And no less so than previously, I found myself getting caught up in the sequence ... Read More

VHS : Les Comperes
I wouldn't call this a subtly witty movie, but there were times when I laughed out loud. There were other times when I thought it was predictable and the humor just too broad.

As usual, Depardieu is very funny, but Pierre Richard is equally funny. Depardieu and Richard have both been told that they are the father of a runaway teenager -- the mother figures if they think it's their kid, they'll go looking for him and bring him back. Her husband -- the kid's father - isn't doing anything. Eventually they realize they are both possibly the kid's father (or so they think) so they team up to look for him -- in Nice, where Depardieu is investigating corruption in the casinos. Depardieu is a rough newspaper reporter, whereas Richard is a depressed ex-schoolteacher, so you have the odd-couple ... Read More

This was a really funny movie. I usually don't like reading sub-titles, but I hardly even noticed them because the movie was so good. The humor is understated and well-done. I highly recommend this movie.

VHS : La Chevre
I would like to buy a DVD of a French comedy I saw in theaters many years ago, but I can't remember if it's "La Chevre" or "Les Comperes," or even something else. I remember there was a scene in which the bumbling star stole a banana and was then carted off to prison because the police suspected him of murder. The misunderstanding was what made it so funny, with the star, whom I think was Pierre Richard, exclaiming on how strict the laws were in this strange town for petty theft. Can anyone here help? If it was La Chevre, then La Chevre is one of the best films I've ever seen. I apologize that this isn't a full review.
