VHS : Red Sun Rising
Red Sun Rising looks good to the eye compared to most films that Don Wilson is in - like Ring of Fire and Bloodfist. The action is entertaining in Red Sun Rising and the mixed cast is recognizable, but the story and script were just not all that interesting. This is an average martial arts film in the end, where the most fun lies in several matchups of Wilson against James Lew (Perfect Weapon, Showdown, Timecop).

In Japan, Thomas Hoshino's (Wilson) partner is killed by the Yakuza and their deadliest killer, (James Lew) who kills with a method known as the death touch. The Yakuza gang escapes to L.A., where they and a system of corrupt police trigger a war between opposing gangs throughout the city. Hoshino travels to L.A. to track down the Yakuza, but has to make peace with his new ... Read More

VHS : The Best of the Lovejoy Mysteries - The Ring
McShane took Jonathan Gash's books are made Lovejoy his own, a kinder, gentler character as it were. The Ring is one of the best episode of the series.

This picks up after Lovejoy is released from Jail (a set up) but he served time anyway with a roomie - a biker named Mavis. Lady Jane, Tink and Eric are concerned because Lovejoy seems rather depressed and not accepting help from them. He goes to an auction and find a series of watercolour in the cottage style. He decides if he can get one sold at a high price he can sell all 22 paintings so he resorts to his old shifty ways to bump the bidding. He goes to his old Ring - partners that conspire to drive up the price. Only one duffer takes a powder at the last instant leaving Lovejoy in the lurch. So he recruits Lady Jane without her ... VHS : Disappearance of Kevin Johnson
Interesting technique - a mystery wrapped in a documentary-style presentation. So real-sounding that you want to know more and find yourself becoming more engrossed as details are progressively revealed. The climax plays Hollywood at their own game. Perhaps a little tame at the end but full marks for innovation!
I've seen it long time ago and I had to see it again. Only the VHS was available on the market in the DVD WORLD :).
I digitized and will be in my good movie collection.
Must see for filmmakers.

Having become obsessed with Hammer's library over the last few years, I simply had to have this set as a completist.

While there are no special features, the episodes themselves are generally at above average quality for a horror anthology (especially compared to more recent anthologies Masters of Horror and Nightmares and Dreamscapes). Many episodes take on a twilight zone approach where once you know what is going on you are impressed with the idea, but not much else, as many are predictable by today's standards.

But don't let the first disc fool you, production value and substance soon picks up. While never on par with some of Hammer's classics, House of Horror provides a quick dose of Hammer Horror.

There are a couple of stand outs... 'Growing Pains' and ... Read More
