VHS : Farewell My Lovely
Robert Mitchum, Sylvia Miles, Charlotte Rampling, Harry Dean Stanton, Jack O'Halloran, John Ireland and Sylvester Stallone, among others - what a lineup. Of the entire genre of film noir, tough guy detective films, this one is by far the best. Mitchum is at his all time best, even though he's nearly sixty in this film (a bit old to play Marlowe, in my opinion, but he carries it off with absolute aplomb). He is the quintessential tough guy gumshoe Marlowe (he floors Dick Powell's previous characterization of the role), Sylvia Miles and Charlotte Rampling turn in flawless performances, and in fact Sylvia Miles received a well-deserved Oscar nod for hers. John Ireland and Harry Dean Stanton also gave marquee performances as well. Even young Sylvester Stallone is a surprise. But another one ... Read More

I've been looking for this movie for quite a while now, I knew Peter Billingsly played in it but for some reason couldn't find it until today.
it will have you sitting at the end of your seat, because you don't know what to expect next (the part i especially remember is the greedy baby sitter, and also when the young guy hid in the back of the car).also the twist that you couldn't have foreseen.
A must see, believe me you wouldn't be disappointed.

On a back shelf in a hippie style book store i came accross this film. Reading the back of the box sparked my curiousity. Yes, this movie has some very funny moments, but i believe there to be some strong messages in this film about being alone, and how vulnerable we are to be needed in the world. All three main characters are alone in life, and they meet many bizarre characters on their road trip that are as alone and troubled as they are. I won't spoil anything, but there is a nerdy small town teenager who shows up in the film who has a horribley funny line about 'Grape Fruits'. This is a rare film, and probably will never get the recognition it deserves.

9.March or Die starring: Gene Hackman, Terence Hill, Catherine Deneuve, Max von Sydow, Ian Holm
directed by: Dick Richards
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : March or Die
March or Die was one of a number of massive box-office disasters that nearly brought Columbia to its knees until CE3K rescued it from the brink. On the surface it belongs alongside the trilogy of mid-70s adventure films that Sean Connery made for the studio, with Gene Hackman's embittered Foreign Legionnaire reluctantly leading his surviving men to protect Max Von Sydow's archaeological dig. It's a perfectly workable premise for an adventure but it never really works. It's a schizophrenic film at best, and not just because of the usual international co-production vagaries: Gene Hackman is starring in a bleak, revisionist drama while Terence Hill is starring in an old-fashioned swashbuckler, and despite John Alcott's strikingly subdued photography neither strand quite works - not enough panache or too much depending on whose turn it is in the spotlight. ...
