This movie is 60's classic. I notice the last post on this forum was in 2000! Here it is 2008 and still no DVD! I agree with the majority of reviewers that the junk that is out on DVD is just that...junk. We don't want these classics to be forgotten. Copy it to DVD before the next iteration of technology emerges.

VHS : Rome Adventure

I saw this film in 1962 just days after returning from a tour of Italy. While not a classic film by any means, I was totally won over and was back in Italy again. Whenever I watch it and listen to Max Steiner's wonderful score I can practically smell Rome. It was titled 'Lovers Must Learn' here in the UK, and was never released on VHS here. I had to get a copy from the USA. I would like to add a plea to Warner Bros to release this film on DVD. It has a real nostalgia quotient attached to it, even more so due to the recent sad demise of Suzanne Pleshette.

This is one of the better historical films made about the war in the Pacific. and the 'thirties and 'forties aviation navy.

I was in naval aviation near the time this was written about, and know the aircraft depicted. The depictions are accurate; one of the rare movies not to throw in the wrong airplane in a battle scene. Like many other similar films about that period (Midway, Pearl Harbor, Tora, Tora, Tora, etc.) using U.S. Navy film footage from the color documentary, filmed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, The Fightin Lady, the footage shown was appropriate for the type of aircraft shown, including my favorite naval fighter of all time, the F6F "Hellcat" Grumman fighter which is credited with shooting down nearly eighty percent of all Japanese aircraft shot down in combat ... VHS : Destination Tokyo
Cary Grant was highly underrated as an actor in his dramatic and especially comedic roles. In his role as a WW2 submarine commander, he does not disappoint. The film works very well with his able and steady hand at the periscope. Their mission is to infiltrate Tokyo Harbor to get important meteorological information. Their journey has the travails suffered by sub crews - air attacks, medical emergencies and other near misses.

Remember: This is a war film made to encourage Americans in a still desperate fight against Japanese fascism. The scales have not yet tilted in America and democracy's favor. So yes, there are jabs at the Japanese as the enemy but that makes this film not just realistic but an authentic piece of recorded history for the temperament of these times.

VHS : Dark Passage
With characters dropping like flies, Bacall, blinded by love, refuses to believe what anybody would believe (and she's right!). The scene where he leaves, never to see her again is perfect. The call from the bus station, the way he stammers through his instructions. The scene in Pieta, Peru where they see each other and, without a word, she moves into his arms and they begin to dance. The convoluted plot twists and turns...but the romance of this movie is a beautiful thing.

Ok so its old time drama but the movie still carries solid performance from the cast. Movie score is not bad either. Lets just say that it may have inspires the Gladiator & Rome of this generation.

A good choice for one of the few film portrayals of white and indigenous peoples relations. Filmed in the state where the majority of the events took place, it follows the factual bones of the story of Cochise and Tom Jeffords fairly well. Of course, Hollywood has to sneak in somewhere and the the romantic involvement holds the most obvious fantastical expansion. However, even that angle shares many tidbits about the Apache lifeways that hold true: the lack of kissing, men plucking facial hair vs. shaving, honeymoon wickiups, rituals for feminine coming of age, etc are culturally accurate of the Chiricahua Apache tribe. A glaring short-coming of the film is the depiction of lead Native Americans characters by white actors.

I used this film in my studies of AZ history and recommend it highly.
