VHS : Time Of Their Lives
In the early 1940's Bud Abbot and Lou Costello produced many many 'b' films for universal. The usual pattern was that bullying Abbot and Child like Costello somehow get involved with mad scientists, gangsters and adventurers concocting wild schemes. Prat falls and chases are their stock in trade. This film however was a break from that pattern and the effect is magic.

It starts in Revolutionary New York where Lou is a struggling tinker and Bud the major Domo for a Tory land owner. This seems pretty much in their usual patter but in short order Lou is mistaken for a British spy and along with the lady of the mannor murdered and cursed.

Time passes and their ghosts, trapped by the curse, are doomed to linger on the grounds of the manor until they can prove their ... Read More

VHS : Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
Before GHOSTBUSTERS there was ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN! The last harrah for the original Universal monsters -- not to be seen until the Hammer revival a decade later. Amazingly, despite his identification with Count Dracula, Lugosi only played the character in the 1931 original and this movie. Glenn Strange (best remembered as the bartender of the Long Branch in the tv series GUNSMOKE) returns as the Monster, Lon Chaney Jr as Larry Talbot, the Wolfman. Never mind why he is after Dracula, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how Dracula's female assistant discovered poor Wilbur. This is a laugh fest with a few old fashioned frights along the way. "Ohhhhhhhhh, Chick!" This film also reworks one gag from HOLD THAT GHOST, the moving candle, this time on Dracula's coffin. Extras include ... Read More

I grew up watching the Ma and Pa Kettle series on PBS on Sunday mornings. I was so excited to discover that they had been released on video, I was able to 'rediscover' these screen gems. Ma and Pa make me laugh out loud! I would recommend this to anyone who likes to revisit fun and innocent times.

VHS : Zorro - V. 6 (The Man From Spain)
I enjoyed these as a child, and still enjoy them as an adult.

Thundering hooves and a flashing sword herald his presence ... a slashing "Z" marks the triumphs! Guy Williams stars as the legendary masked hero in this classic action-packed adventure from the original Disney television series!

The stern and imposing Andres Basilio (Everett Sloane), the king's emissary from Spain, announces the reason for his visit: an elaborate money-raising program utilizing so-called Royal Bonds. And a tough-looking enforcer is present to ensure that the dons and businessmen comply with Basilio's demands. Don Diego, sensing an alternate destination for the money, decides that Zorro is desperately needed to investigate the legitimacy of the financial program.

VHS : Hazel-A Double Holiday Dose of
This great two-story video celebrates humanity and humor in the heartwarming and embraceable persona of Hazel, the loveable and irrepressable housekeeper. One episode in black and white celebrates Missy's great affection for her housekeeper. And one episode in color demonstrates the metamorphisis of a dissatisfied husband/boss into a happy fellow ready to celebrate with the family. Great for the season, but great to watch anytime you're feeling blue or short on humanity.

This film is set in Montana. A stagecoach stops 3 miles from Wagon Gap, a dangerous town. Two salesmen walk the rest of the way. Chester shoots his pistol. "Nice Shooting!" But things look bad until the Citizen's Committee intervene. There will be a trial in the saloon. Montana law said anybody who killed a man in a duel becomes responsible for the upkeep of the dead man's widow and children. "That's the way I'd have done it." The bread is passed around, then soup is served. [This must be one of the funniest scenes.] Can that dog spell? Can Duke win in a poker game? "He needs the rest."

Will a message be garbled in the retelling? Does anyone want Chester's job? Sheriff Wooley finds new power and respect. But there is a rumor about wealth for Widow Hawkins. Will there be a chase? Will the gold shipment be saved? Can the sheriff ... Read More
