VHS : The Rounders
This amiable modern Western benefits enormously from the casting of the great genre veterans Henry Fonda and Glenn Ford as two veteran cowboys ,forever on the verge of abandoning their nomadic lifestyle and settling down ,but never quite making it.The movie revolves around their attempts to tame an especially recalitrant bronco named Ol Fooler-who it is suggested is a little like the two men in being stubborn ,hard to tame and determined to go his own way but likeable and who eventually will be coerced back into the mainstream

There is not a tightly constructed plot as such ,more a series of incidents heavy on the humour which -be aware ,is often slightly risque (there is a shot of bare bottoms for example which may bother the more prudish ).

Ford and Fonda are wonderful ... Read More

This movie was made as a comedic sexual comedy at a time when such things were really pretty tame by todays standards. The script is mediocre but the cast is great. The is a wild western that is safe for most audiences, but not quite family friendly due to the sexual inuendo. It Sells for a pretty price even used due to rarity.

VHS : The Alamo - Thirteen Days To Glory
Yes, this has faults, many glaring. But it was created for the Texas Sesquicentennial celebration and was aired during the time of year of the battle (if I remember correctly). It was made to be entertaining and appeal to the young people (Alex Baldwin; the young lovers-the girl was played by a former Miss Texas, I think; the marvelous Raul Julia, who practically stole the show), who have to study Texas history twice before they graduate there. As a fifth-generation native Texan (currently exiled in Georgia) I love the Alamo story and its various conflicting legends, understanding that because of the veil of history and the way that Santa Ana tried to obliterate the battle site we may never know the entire truth of the matter. What we can know are certain specifics. The actors portraying Bowie and Crockett ... Read More

Highly Recommended.

VHS : The War Wagon
The War Wagon was a hit when it was first released and is still a great film today. John Wayne and Kirk Douglas have just enough tension to really wonder if they will end up shooting each other or doing the hold up. Excellent addition to any family home film library.

VHS : Support Your Local Gunfighter
Though the titles are similar, as is some of the cast, this isn't a sequel to Support Your Local Sheriff. In some ways it's the complete opposite of Support Your Local Sheriff. In Sheriff Garner was good with a gun, in this one he isn't. In this movie he's Latigo Smith, much more akin to Maverick than his character in Sheriff, i.e., he's slower with a gun & somewhat of a coward.

Latigo arrives in Purgatory (a town name that would've been perfect in an episode of Maverick) on the run from a woman he's jilted & conned. He, literally, wants to get something off his chest...a tattoo with the name Goldie, the woman he's running from. Latigo happens to overhear Taylor Barton (Harry Morgan), a local mining baron, talking about putting a competitor out of business, Col. Ames (John Dehner who had appeared ... Read More

The brothers (played by Strother Martin, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam)as mentioned in other reviews, are "slap stick" at times. Welch's make-up was too heavy for the time period, and her dress un-buttoned down her navel while she is cooking, was a bit much. With all that it is still a very good movie and Robert Culp's best acting. He could teach me to shoot a gun anytime!

One of the better Welch movies, I have this on VHS and have watched it over and over!

This was a true suspense film at its best. A creepy story about a group of farm kids who will do anything to get a set of parents at all costs! It makes you think about not picking up hitchhikers, even if they are six years old! Excellent purchase!

still watchable.

The cast is well known, with Ann-Margret, Rod Taylor and many other familiar faces in this genre surrounding John Wayne.

The story is a simple one, just with a twist at the end of the movie.

The DVD is nicely produced, but lacks a booklet, or other special stuff that could at least clarify somewhat, how the movie was made and perhaps include some cut-out scenes.

Just for the die-hard Duke fan.

If you're not, don't waste your money. There are better ones out there of the same time period. See Big Jake, Cahill, or the real runner, The Cowboys.
