VHS : High Road to China
"High Road to China" is a classic. It had a great cast and good directing. The movie had action, adventure, comedy, danger, romance, and history. Tom Selleck is at his best. Bess Armstrong gives a stellar performance; as do Jack Weston, Wilford Brimley, et al. As with his movies, T.S's presence on the silver screen, doesn't overpower the other actors/actresses. It is a crime against good films not to view it, let alone not to own it !

VHS : Where Eagles Dare
Clint Eastwood probably mowed down more of Adolf Hitler's German soldiers in Brian G. Hutton's "Where Eagles Dare" than he did western outlaws as either Sergio Leone's Man with No Name in the "Dollars" trilogy or criminals as "Dirty Harry" in his five Warner Brothers crime movies. Bestselling British author Alistair MacLean penned the splendid screenplay that he later converted into a much tamer novel about a team of elite British M.I. 6 secret agents that parachute into Germany to rescue one of the top-ranking officers with a mother lode of knowledge about the June 6th Normandy landings. This MGM blockbuster that runs 158 minutes is probably the greatest action-adventure movie with a World War II setting ever produced. We're talking wall-to-wall gunfire with more surprises and complications ... Read More

VHS : Kelly's Heroes
Stay away from this awful movie. although Eastwood's done a lot of great work in his 40 + years of filmaking, this is one movie to pass up. Donald Sutherland's hippie character is a complete waste, while Carroll O'Conner's character is simply a caricature of an inept army general. Eastwood does his wooden impression of a concerned soldier. Sadly, Savals and Rickles are the best actors in the whole movie. Poor attention to detail throughout: no one gets dirty or has a five o'clock shadow, despite marching through the French countryside for days. Also, after being strafed by an American plane, the soldiers call it the "air force" (which didn't exist until after the war) instread of "air corps." No battle tactics displayed by the German soldiers who die by the score. Not one of them takes any ... Read More

VHS : X Y & Zee
Liz Taylor nearly kissed off her stunning WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? comeback with an almost unbroken string of howl fests -- and this is one of the best of the worst. WIldly painted and bursting out of '60s psychedelic frocks in her a-go-go gone-amok phase, Taylor plays the sadistic, horny, wealthy, foul-mouthed wife of masochistic, horny, wealthy, foul-mouthed London architect Michael Caine.

The action starts when Caine, at a party, flashes his eyes at achingly sensitive boutique owner Susannah York. "You know, she told me she's prone to weeping if anything nice happems to her," hostess Margaret Leighton tells Liz of widow Susannah. Taylor bugs her eyes and gags: "Yuck! YUCK!"

Precisely.

Taylor turns into a woman run mad -- she's forever blaring bad rock music ... Read More
