VHS : The Nightmare Years
I have been a fan of Mr. William Shirer for many years and have read about his correspondence during the Nazi regime in Germany. This video compliments highly his views and the condition of the people very well during those years. Being a newspaperman he is critical and imaginative comparing Germany before and after the Nazi's.

VHS : Middlemarch (3pc)
This has got to be the slowest movie I've ever seen. I love period pieces, but this is not worth it. Don't waste your money. The plot is .....well there wasn't a plot. It was the most depressing movie I've ever seen.

VHS : Final Warning
In 1986, a nuclear disaster rocked the Soviet Union. "Final Warning" is a chronological look at the cause and effects of that tragedy. It focuses primarily on the doctors who rushed to battle the effects of the radiation. Smartly directed, "Final Warning" is a sad and educational depiction of history.

VHS : Johnny Belinda (1982 TV movie)
This better than average made-for-television remake of the 1948 classic "Johnny Belinda" may disappoint fans of that version, but it more than makes up for the storyline differences by the sincere performances of its leads -- Rosanna Arquette (as 'Belinda McAdam') and Richard Thomas (as 'William Richmond').

Thomas plays "William 'Bill' Richmond" a VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) worker who comes to Hatcher to teach about nutrition and public health to the poverty stricken rural community and to help set up an agricultural cooperative. He works in tandem with 'Julie Sayles' (Candy Clark), a local public nurse, and slowly becomes acquainted with the taciturn residents. While attempting to set up a communal garden, and after a near-miss he becomes aware of a silent, mute, ... Read More

VHS : Lady Vanishes
This is an updated version of Alfred Hitchcock's 1937 suspense film. Their was no longer any diplomatic reason to censor the identity of that central European power. The heroine how had an American nationality (Cybill didn't do accents). The story echoes an Eric Ambler novel from that era. A person who is just going about their own business finds themselves involved in a dangerous intrigue; and survives.

Who could suspect an elderly music teacher as a spy? They could fade into the background. Using a song to convey a message is an example of a plain language code. The topic of this film is making a person disappear and replacing that person with a substitute to prevent the trick from being discovered. This has been used in other stories to promote a deception ("The Prisoner of Zenda"). ... Read More

VHS : I Never Promised You a Rose Garden
Wonderfully acted. The scenes in the mental institution are very realistic, sad, & disturbing. Kathleen Quinlan is incredible as Deborah & Bibi Andersson gives a very sensitive, heartfelt performance as her caring psychiatrist. Interesting to note that the theme of antisemitism in the book which affected Deborah was omitted from the movie. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.
I was disappointed in the DVD quality. This film deserved better.
