Why did it seem like Tommy Lee Jones was doing his 'Strannix thing" from "Under Siege" in this movie? The plot winds into predictable end that makes you say "Where have I seen this before?" The movie seemed like a ripoff of so many other political/assassination-type flicks I've seen before. Not many surprises (if any) in this movie.

This is a worthwhile movie to view, if only for the presence of soon to be famous actors. Joe Pantoliano, Rachel Ward, Daryl Hannah,and Mark Metcalf (Seinfeld's The Maestro) star in this sometimes brilliant slasher epic. While the gore is not plentiful, the mood is effective. If you love horror that plays on isolation watch this movie. Gore hounds might be disappointed.

I read this book often with my students. It's extremelely well written and engaging for children. When the movie first came out, I cautioned my students that they may be disappointed in the way the book has been translated to the big screen. Much to my surprise, the movie is great!

This is a great movie with action, drama and mystery as Richard Kimbal (Ford) escapes from legal custody and must figure out not only who has stolen his life, but why. The action and direction are very well done here, but the real achievement is the characterization. The people inhabiting this world feel real and identifiable. We understand the reasoning behind their actions, "good" or "bad". If that were not the case (as in the sequel, "U.S. Marshals") we couldn't care what happened. Ford is perfect. He is appropriately intense and sympathetic. Jones is excellent. Appropriately acerbic, sarcastic and caring. Jones' team of marshals is perfect. The characters are distinct and fleshed out. This movie is from the brief period at Warner Brothers when Steven Seagal had decent budgets and good co-stars. This is an obvious ripoff of Die Hard, with Seagal in the Bruce Willis role, Tommy Lee Jones in the Alan Rickman role, and a battleship substituting for an office building. There is an inherent appeal in these movies as the badly outnumbered hero gradually knocks off the bad guys before finally confronting the head villain. Of course, Seagal can't really act, but that's not actually required here. Ex-Playboy playmate Erika Eleniak contributes a brief -- but formidable -- nude scene. As far as thrillers go, this is my favorite kind. I loved the story of an unhappy wife having an affair and the husband who decides to pay her lover off by having him kill her so he can collect all the money she's worth which is a lot. There are many twists and turns and things don't quite go as expected which just makes it all the more interesting and exciting. Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow are both actors I truly enjoy so they make the film all the better. And Gwyneth looks as beautiful as ever here. I have not seen Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder, but I read the producers felt like there were many areas to explore with this type of story that wasn't explored in Dial M. Terrific action film with a little more depth than usual Norris flick. This film was scripted by the same team who gave the "classic" THE CAR and was originally intended for Clint Eastwood (who passed on it). Chuck does a pretty good job as Eddie Cussack. CODE OF SILENCE refers not just to the mobsters but the cops as well. Maybe the assault machine at the end is a little much, but I give a high five. Solid performances from Henry Silva, Dennis Farrino and Bert Remsen. Recommended to one and all.
