I remember watching this movie as a kid. It really has memorable songs, and cute aspects that make an otherwise violent subject (prohibition-era gangsters) humorous. It was cool finding a clean DVD.

VHS : Pink Floyd - The Wall
Of all the efforts put in bt Pink Floyd, this is the one essential Roger Waters compilation. This product is a journey into madness. It's about the alienation he feels between the band and the fans.

One of the rules of screenplay writing is that you don't change the rules in the middle of the game. Going in, a movie makes an implied contract with the viewer. If it is going to break the laws of physics, perhaps introduce space aliens or ghosts for example, the viewer must be informed of the fantasy rules straight away. This film begins as a "noir," complete with the stereotypical cheap detective working out of his Nick Danger office in 1954 New York City. The ending does a switcheroo to a world in which voodoo works, devils are real, and Faustian contracts are in force. I felt betrayed and cheated.

The movie does have a quality film noir look and feel to it, and the acting is top notch. Micky Rourke and Robert De Niro delivered the compelling performances that we have come ... Read More

This is a very good musical with a rich overview of Argentinas history and its struggle towards democracy. Madonna is amazing and her talent is reflected in her ability to not only be a pop artist, but also a classical artist. This is a good musical for people that dont usually like musicals and for Madonna fans to see her in a different light.

I gave a 5 star rating because the movie is that good, but this is the FULL SCREEN version of the film, not the widescreen version. Amazon really need to start labelling their movies a bit clearer. I'm no big movie buff, but I am quite into movies and when I saw the "1:33:1" aspect ratio, I assumed it was a widescreen version of the movie since I've always know the aspect ratio for full screen to be 4:3. It's not hard to put "The Road To Wellville (Full Screen Edition)" in the header of their movies. I feel pretty ripped off as this movie was 18 bucks, pretty expensive for a standard full screen DVD. What's odd is the movie doesn't seem to be released in the U.S. on DVD in widescreen. Really odd since they too the time to remaster the video.

Also, a note to movie companies... full screen versions ... Read More

VHS : Mississippi Burning
My best friend and I had a discussion about Gene Hackman the other day, since both of us are huge fans. We were recounting some of our favorite Hackman performances (`Unforgiven', `Hoosiers') and I was suggesting to him Hackman films he needed to see (`The Royal Tenenbaums') and he was suggesting ones I needed to see (`Crimson Tide') and then we came to the subject of `Mississippi Burning' and realized that neither of us had seen it. So, I told him I was coming over and on my way I rented this film and we had a few beers and watched one of the best Hackman films either of us had ever seen.

Not just one of his best movies; one of his best performances!

`Mississippi Burning' (inspired by a true story) tells the tragic tale three young rights activists who were murdered in a small Mississippi town. ... Read More

I was waiting for this film to come out on DVD. It's an exceptional movie with one of the finest performances by an adolescent that you will ever see.

Albert Finney and Diane Keaton star as the Dunlaps, a successful Marin County-living couple whose marriage falls apart. Dana Hill portrays Sherry, the oldest of their four daughters (a very young Tracey Gold, Tina Yothers and Viveka Davis round out the other children).

Sherry is old enough to see what is happening, but too young to handle the aftermath. I believe that a Washington Post critic at the time, said Ms. Hill's portrayal was the finest adolescent dramatic performance ever filmed. One would be hard pressed to argue that point.

Keaton and Finney were both nominated for Golden Globes. For the amazing dramatic peformances alone, this ... Read More

VHS : Midnight Express (Aniv Rmst)
Stone won't make himself vulnerable to anyone or the facts, whether that means eliminating all JFK conspiracy theories other than his own or simplifying a story and people as he has done here in Midnight Express. Stone borrowed Billy Hayes' real story of being held in a Turkish prison for several years after being caught smuggling hashish, and hijacked it to devastating effect. [I focus on screenwriter Stone instead of director Parker because the substance of Hayes' original book was altered by Stone and Parker just created Stone's skewed vision]. Stone was successful in destroying the Turkish justice image in the minds of generations of Americans. Ask most any American [now thirty years after Stone made his movie] to picture a Turkish(or Islamic) prison or court room or justice system, and the one portrayed in Midnight Express is the one ...
