I lived in Thailand for 2 1/2 years in the 1990's. It was a very nice time indeed. I know that this is not good history for Thailand and in fact the film is banned in Thailand (but a bootleg copy can be found on every street corner) because of the poor history and light on it's great king, King Mongkut. To me as an American, I can see the brilliance of a Rogers and Hammerstein Musical and enjoy its wonderful story and entertainment, it is different for a Thai person. Still the art is there and I find it highly enjoyable. I grew up with this musical and find it beautiful. Debra Kerr and Yul Brynner round out a perfect cast with Rita Moreno as TupTim. The story, sets, song and acting are nearly perfect. I wish the story was more accurate but it might have taken away from the magical fantasy ... Read More

This movie was made in the days before film-makers realized that people were sophisticated enough to recognize corn when they saw it. Horz Bucholz's impetuous kid act was just total corn. Talk about bad acting. Robert Vaughn deliberately affects some kind of bizarre weakling voice quality. The whole premise of the movie was that the villagers were wothless cowards but Bronson goes off his head proclaiming how brave they are because they're dirt scratching farmers. The 40 banditos ride into the village and the hired guns(the seven) expose themselves in positions where they could easily be shot by less than half of 40 banditos. I saw this movie many years ago when I was little and liked it right away. It's a classic and I've been searching for a good German and English DVD for years but I found out it's obviously not available on DVD yet which I personally do think is a pity.

Films buffs will want to know that the Spanish R2 'Mundo Futuro' DVD is missing footage. There are four cuts totaling 2.5 minutes of missing footage: 1. The pre-credit sequence is missing. 2. Some dialoge during the press invite, round table scene. 3. When Peter Fonda explores the remains of Westworld. 4. Dialogue at the very end. Until a better version is released, your best bet is to pick up the R2 UK full frame edition which includes all of the above cuts.

Catlow is a good western about the friendship between two men; Bijah Catlow(Yul Brynner)and Ben Cowan(Richard Crenna). Based on the novel by Louis L'Amour, Catlow tells the story of Cowan's pursuit of his childhood friend Bijah Catlow. Brynner as Catlow is completely believable as the amiable outlaw that L'Amour wrote about. Good action sequences and quick dialogue. Sometimes a little confusing if you haven't read the book, which is better than the movie. Watch out for a bizarre and unnecessary Leonard Nimoy butt scene! However Nimoy plays a decent gunman although he has very few lines.
