VHS : Black Rain
I found a used DVD on eBay for $35. It wasn't worth it. The image is letterboxed, but so small that you have to blow it up to resolution-killing proportions. I also own the VHS and laserdisc of "Black Rain." The tape offers a MUCH better image. The laserdisc gives the best results of all. I am outraged at the prices being asked here. I really hope this great movie will be re-released with proper care, and that the people who want to rip you off will be left holding the bag.

VHS : Vampire Hunter D (Dub)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1XV261Z7USHSB "Vampire Hunter D" is an anime film based on the first of a long-running series pf novels and in my top 5 favorite films of all time. It's my favorite animated film, it's the reason I got into anime in the first place, it's got one of my favorite scores of all time, it's the first DVD I ever bought, and it's one movie I will never ever get sick of. So consider it recommended. There is absolutely nothing quite like it out there that I am aware of. The sequel, Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust, is another easy five star film with beautiful modern animation and first-rate voice talent, but there is just something about the original; an ambiance that no other film has that makes it unique and utterly mesmerizing as well as creepy and just downright enjoyable. ... VHS : Cruel Story of Youth
After releasing his debut film Street of Love and Hope in 1959, Oshima would be quick to release three films in quick succession in 1960: Cruel Story of Youth, Burial of the Sun, and Night and Fog in Japan. While such output might make one think that the end results of the films might be a bit shoddy due to the hastiness in their creation, in fact all three of the films are important films not only within the realms of Oshima's filmic work, but for Japanese new wave cinema as a whole.

Oshima began 1960 with a bang when Cruel Story of Youth was released. A genre film, fully embedded within the late 1950s, early 1960s tradition of youth films or Sun Tribe films made popular by directors Masamura Yasuzo and Nakahira Ko, Cruel Story of Youth goes beyond its formulaic groundings to be a film that has strong ... VHS : Good Morning (AKA Ohayo)
Of the Big Three Japanese film directors from last century, who were known in the West, Kenji Mizoguchi, Akira Kurosawa, and Yasujiro Ozu, Ozu is by far the least well known, and this is because he was probably the least technically innovative of the troika. But, that is not the same as saying he was the least accomplished. In fact, his 1959 social comedy of manners, Good Morning (Ohayo), set in a modern Tokyo suburban subdivision, is in many ways far more relevant than the more famed period pieces the other directors made, for it has a definite Western sensibility. Ozu seemed to be obsessed with documenting history, but history as it was lived, not re-imagined. He was acutely aware of his role as a social documentarian, if in a fictive sense. It was also his third color film, and on the surface it would seem to narratively ... Read More

If you are looking for Hentai or Manga this is not it. The episodes are tightly written stories featuring the richest girl in the world, who is also a super cool agent(?!) or corporate boss or leader of the free world shadow government ... it doesn't matter.

Its breezy, but still tells some really great stories with some pretty great animation.
