VHS : I Love Lucy Christmas Special
"I Love Lucy" was such a wonderful series and a landmark in television history which has been in a constant state of rerun since it first premiered in the early 1950's. It was such a success because of the superb talents of the four main leads, brilliant writing, and a great care shown for how the stories of the trials and tribulations of the Ricardo's and the Mertz's were presented.

In this video we have a unique installment from the classic series in the one and only Christmas special produced during the shows run and it has been rarely seen since its first and only screening in the 1950's as it wasn't included in the original rerun deal because of its specific Christmas theme. The episode is a warm and funny one with the cast of Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, William Frawley and Vivian ... Read More

VHS : I Love Lucy/Honeymooners TV Christmas Special
The Honeymooners Christmas Special is one of my favorites. After watching it on the Honeymooners Marathon I was glad to see it available. It had me laughing -- Ed Norton is too funny -- and it had me in tears. It's a classic to own. I never watched this I Love Lucy Christmas special. I was surprised to see flashbacks of a few other episodes -- especially the one when Ricky finds out Lucy is expecting. I liked the ending and was surprised to see where the thought came from -- an earlier episode made that was never shown until this video. As a person who's always loved the Holiday Season, the Honeymooners and I Love Lucy, I am very happy to own this video.

VHS : Babe Ruth Story
This is a documentary. The history, only romanced a little by Hollywood.
I never saw Babe play. I am 61. But my father sat right behind him in center field, at the Stadium in New York. This movie was one of the first movies I ever saw. The nuns played it for us once a year, at school, because of the message at the end of the film. Me, as a regular human, give the film 5 stars. This is on my "Top-Five-of-all-time" list

VHS : Abbott & Costello Meet The Invisible Man
Students graduate from the Dugan Detective School, among them Bud and Lou. They begin working the night shift and get their first client, who takes them to a house. Tommy Nelson wants the serum to make himself invisible! It's the only way he can escape the police. They don't believe Lou, and have him examined. There is a skit over passing the bucks. The special effects are good. Lou demonstrates his boxing skills at the gym. "Louie the Looper" will get a match with Rocky Hanlon. There is a plan to catch those responsible for killing O'Hara, the manager of Tommy Nelson. The skits are funny, but you can see the boys are older and less active.

The story continues with drama and comedy. Invisible Tommy will punch Rocky in the ring. But Tommy leaves the ring to listen to Morgan. He returns ... Read More

VHS : Rose of Washington Square
Fanny Brice sued (and won big money) over the clear references to her own life, and Alice Faye is not the person to do justice to the song "My Man" (see Barbra Streisand in "Funny Girl" if you want real emotion) but this is still an engrossing film with Al Jolson performing some of his signature somgs.

Faye adds little to the role of a Ziegfeld star who marries poorly, but her likeability is all that is needed. Tyrone Power is all charm and attempts to add some substance to his role as a neer-do-well gambler. There's also Bill Frawley of I Love Lucy fame in a small role, but for me the film is an unequalled chance to see Al Jolson at his very best. Jolson avoids the over-acting of his earlier starring films (near the end of his film career, he accepted third billing here) but then no one watches ... Read More

I expected more from a B. Hope movie, but this one delivers a lot less. Fans of Bob will be disapointed.
