VHS : Chips the War Dog
Several years ago we taped this on VHS when it aired on the Disney Channel. The tape was watched so many times, it had to be thrown away a long time ago! This was one of my brothers and I's favorites, and now that my children are entering their school-age years, I'd love for them to see this. However, we definitely would like this on DVD--so it lasts for generations to come!

Simply put, I knew of this movie for awhile but never watched it. I saw Threads, The Day After and such many years ago but always put this movie on the back burner. This movie did not have the graphic nature of many nuclear war movies, and that is what made it work. It didnt need it. One's own imagination of the breaking down of society and the bleak future was troubling and made me a little sick. Definatley watch this movie.

VHS : Report to the Commissioner
I read James Mills novel long before I ever saw the film. When it played in early 1974, it came and went without much notice, being overshadowed that year by (late 1973's) SERPICO and MAGNUM FORCE. Too bad. This is a solid crime drama, written by 2 noteworthy screenwriters, Abby Mann (KOJAK) and Ernest Tidyman (SHAFT)and probably would have gotten raves and Emmey consideration had it been a made for TV pic. REPORT reflects NYPD corruption of the 1970's but the main storyline is men in crisis: a naive cop (Michael Moriarty) and a drug dealer (Tony King in a powerhouse turn)gun barrell to gun barrell in a Saks 5th Ave. elevator; The NYPD brass (played by classic character vets as Dana Elcar, Ed Grover, Hector Elizondo)concocting a high level whitewash; a veteran detective (Yaphet Kotto) who must resort ... VHS : Rolling Thunder
In the 1970s, Hollywood came out with some "vengeance" movies. Another one that comes to mind is "The Farmer," which I saw with a group of buddies at the (Air Force) base theater.

Anyway, while "Rolling Thunder" might be short on military protocol (sloppy salutes and ill-fitting uniforms), it's long on what you would expect from this genre.

The bad guys are bad: Dirty rotten scoundrels in need of a shave and full of greed. They hang out in seedy bars and whorehouses and wear filthy shirts and have bad teeth. You get the sense that exterminating them is the right thing to do.

William Devane and Tommy Lee Jones are the anti-heroes. Icy cold. resolute and only after the bad guys. They don't lay a finger on a good guy.

The film slows down in a couple of parts, as ... Read More

5.Rubdown (1993) starring: Michelle Phillips, Jack Coleman, Kent Williams, Alan Thicke, Catherine Oxenberg
directed by: Stuart Cooper
November 11, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Rubdown (1993)
This is one of "those" made-for-cable thrillers that seemed so popular during the '90s in which great 1940s film plots were ripped off, mixed with a bit of sex, and acted out by not quite a-list actors such as Andrew Stevens.
The plot of Rubdown, whilst a little bit implausible (washed up sports star becomes massuer and is lured into murderous plot with scheming wife of passive rich guy) is sufficiently complicated, and the cast, headed by the always interesting and rather sexy Michelle Phillips, is unusual to say the least: there's Phillips' former "Knots Landing" husband Bill Devane in a small but pivotal role, former "Dynasty" siblings Jack Coleman and Catherine Oxenberg playing lovers, and even that earnest father from "Growing Pains" Alan Thicke.
It's not exactly a sensational mystery film, but it is diverting ... Read More

6.Yanks starring: Richard Gere, Lisa Eichhorn, Vanessa Redgrave, William Devane, Chick Vennera
directed by: John Schlesinger
January 01, 1998
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Yanks
For the first hour it brims with great scripting, editing, and camera work. By the end you find yourself wishing they'd just go AWOL and catch a ride back to the states. If you want to stay riveted to your seat you simply can't go wrong with Schlesinger's "Midnight Cowboy". Never could say much for most British film makers, but many of them have made really crackerjack films about us yanks!

7.Lady in Waiting starring: Michael Nouri, Robert Costanzo, Shannon Whirry, Crystal Chappell, Karen Kopins
directed by: Fred Gallo

VHS : Lady in Waiting
The gorgeous Shannon Whirry keeps the heat turned up in this one as a mysterious lady involved with cop Michael Nouri and maybe involved in some murders. Ms. Whirry is sometimes the sole reason to watch a movie but this time she is in a pretty darn good movie. Good characters and plot with some actual suspense and mystery. Still, Shannon Whirry is worth the price of admission all on her own. She's all that and a bag of chips! Check her out in this hot erotic thriller and see why Joe Bob and I think she's the true Queen of this genre.

I'd say if you're over 40 this movie has a lot of appeal. Yes, I took my 15-year-old, and he enjoyed it too, but old age is the place we all hopefully get to, and Eastwood and his friends are entertaining in this space action story about profession and life after retirement. Yes, the plot is a bit thin, and the non-stars are 2-dimensional, but humor and attention to detail make up for it. And there's just enough drama, and fast flying, to get your hearbeat going. Careful, though, not too fast!

10.Hadley's Rebellion starring: Griffin O'Neal, William Devane, Charles Durning, Adam Baldwin, Lisa Lucas
