VHS : Body of Evidence (Unrated Version)
This film seems to be a divorce gift from Madonna to Sean Penn. After hot tempered fits of bondage and domination fueled by alcohol split their msrriage up, she still claimed to love him. Madonna monotones her lines as she strips to keep us guessing, Did she do the murder or not? William Dafoe snarls, grimmaces and shouts as her attorney seduced by her devious games, at times resembling Talman's Hamilton Berger on Perry Mason. If anyone should divorce a cruel partner they should have him or her sentenced to a prison where this is the only film to watch. Like Basic Instinct, but it really stinks and is one of the worst films ever made.

VHS : Spider-Man 2
Okay. SPIDER-MAN was a smash in the Summer of 2002, so naturally Columbia Pictures and Marvel wanted a sequel. How could they possibly top themselves?

Doc Ock.

Awright! Yes, I was excited. When I saw the promo art for Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius I was very, very impressed. If they did this right. . .

SPIDER-MAN 2 is the very best Superhero film ever made, in my humble opinion. It is a beautiful balance of character, action, emotion, excitement and art. It is not merely a Summer Blockbuster: it is a well-rounded film that has become a classic.

The team from the first film returned for 2, and their camaraderie is evident in every frame of the movie. Actors Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Rosemary Harris and J. K. Simmons ... Read More

Due to lack of advertising, I didn't see this movie til a few years after its release when a good friend of mine bought it for me and I'm very glad he did. This movie is up there with my top favorite movies. Buy this movie, you won't be disappointed...and if you are, I doubt it'll take you long to find a new owner for your Boondock Saints.

VHS : Last Temptation of Christ
The Last Temptation of Christ is not quite a weird movie. If you're expecting profound blasphemy and other good stuff, this is actually tame like a punk that bought all their outfit at Hot Topic. For one thing, the movie dares show Jesus might have had a different mind than most people, one prone to breakdown that might lead him to imagine he's God. But there's not much point to showing this side since he is also shown performing every miracle. There's no dispute in the film to his superhuman status, which makes the fact that this film was so controversial very funny. Jesus comes across as kind of a spacey neurotic and more than a bit unprepared to be the magical son of God, but still it's faithful to Christianity in message. Much of his fear and doubt are just interpretation of the Bible and common sense take ... Read More

VHS : English Patient
"The English Patient" is a curate's egg among the Academy Awards. It's an artistically beautiful, sensual film though at times it's slow and bogs down. It has a talented ensemble cast, and lush settings in the North African desert and the Tuscan countryside.

A nurse,Hana (Juliette Binoche) finds a terribly burnt Hungarian nobleman,Laszlo Almasy (Ralph Fiennes) At the same time, she is caring for a thumbless artist,Caravaggio (Willem Dafoe),and has met a handsome Sikh (Naveen Andrews) While she reveals Renaissance murals, she also gradually reveals connections among the men she cares for. On a mapmaking expedition,Almasy fell for a beautiful married woman (Kristin Scott Thomas, with Colin Firth as her husband) They carried on a brief, passionate affair. Like a mirage,it faded. Their affair was an oasis for their hearts. ... Read More

VHS : Spider-Man (2002)
Spider-man is a hugely popular film franchise, and it's not without good reason. The first film is great with good acting, great special effects and music, and a great starting point for the story. It involves Peter Parker getting bitten by some kind of genetically enhanced spider, giving him the famous powers Spider-man is known for. After that you get the green goblin involved (a guy who does a science experiment on himself... but it doesn't go so well) and you have some good fight scenes and some cheesy but funny lines. There are a few particularly memorable scenes, the cage fight near the film's beginning being one of them. So overall I highly recommend Spider-man to anyone who likes action movies and now that it's offered for such cheap prices you barely have any excuse to not see it!

VHS : Clear & Present Danger
This is a completely different film to its predecessor, Patriot Games - not necessarily better or worse, but its tone and direction are much more different, and its use of Ryan certainly is. We see far more of James Earl Jones' character Greer in this movie, and that is a good thing: he is a strong figure, a mentor and a sounding-board for Ryan, and watching his decline and death brings both counterpoint and perspective to the other on-screen events. The other supporting cast don't serve a single-minded purpose as they did in Patriot Games, rather they interact more, engage in political manouvreing, and indulge in self-serving machination. Ryan tries to weave his way through all this, choosing the path he believes is right, often with great doubt and a lack of confidence. This is not Patriot Games, where the goals and the target were clear and ... Read More
