Elf is simply one of the best holiday movies EVER. I put this one right up there with A Christmas Story, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the very programme to which Elf plays homage. Will Ferrell is brillant as Buddy, the human orphan who found a home and love at the North Pole with Papa Elf, one of Santa's employees. When Buddy decides to return to New York City to find his birth father, hilarity ensues. Elf has wonderfully funny goofy moments, poignant moments, disgustingly funny moments -- like when he eats the already-been-chewed gum from a subway railing -- and a few serious moments. This movie is absolutely hilarious, for ages teen and older. My kids especially love the quirky but loveable character played by Molly Shannon and her equally quirky but loveable friends. If you're looking for something intellectual, keep searching for another movie. If you are looking for something light-hearted that will make you laugh but also has an underlying good premise about not letting anything or anyone keep you down when trying to reach your goal, then this is a movie you will enjoy.

I am a fan of Michelle Williams and Kirsten Dunst so that might explain why I loved this light-hearted movie. It's silly but cute. A good movie to watch when your in the mood to laugh your head off. Music is great too! Like another reviewer said, this is definitely a "cult" hit!

I don't think there is enough space in this review window to do this movie justice! This is the movie that helped launch the careers of such celebrated comedians like Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn! And man do they earn their honors with this movie! I think one of the things that makes this movie so widely loved is that it identifies with college students as well as people in their later 20s and 30s. There are so much LOL moments in this that you'll barely have time to catch a breath. This is a worthy DVD buy because this movie has LOTS of rewatchability (is that even a real word????). When my neighbor brought this over for us to watch, I rolled my eyes. How could this obviously juvenile, brain-withering pile be amusing in any shape or fashion? Oh, how wrong I was! I laughed non-stop during this movie. It is ridiculously stupid. The only parts I didn't like were the sexual ones (specifically, the orgy scene and the massage scene), but quite frankly, that was just my personal taste. And even those things are so ridiculous that you can't take them all that seriously. The wonderful stupidity, the lines, the story -- it is all so ridiculous, so out there, so unique -- that you'll most likely find it a delectable treat.
