Do not buy from this seller - false ads and bogus copies. I ordered what was supposed to be a NEW DVD and instead was shipped a BADLY BURNED COPY. And the seller never replied to my email - fortunately, Amazon has wonderful customer service.

VHS : It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie
I am a big fan of the Muppet Family (Sesame, Fraggles, thee Muppets, Labyrinth, etc.)and so it is without hesitation that I write this review to say this Muppet release is best to be forgotten. Some have been pleased with the newer Muppet releases (Muppet Christ Carol, Muppets From Space) and disappointed (Muppet Treasure Island)... but this release is beyond disappointment or simply a bad movie.

It's simply inappropriate for a Muppet film.

Fozzie is a pick-pocket, which is sort of funny, but it goes downhill from there. Kermit is furious at everyone and apparently suicidal (screaming "I wish I was never born!" over... and over... and over again...). Miss Piggy is a Call Girl Operator. Peppe gets a permit to open a topless nightclub... and Scooter is an S&M ... Read More

The voices of Brandy, Bernadette Peters and plenty more make this movie so enjoyable!!
Even how it has Jason Alexander, Victor Garbour and Whoppi Goldburg in the movie brings out the fun in it. What I love about it is that the music and lyrics are all composed my Richard Rodgers and oscar Hammerstein who have given us the most fantastic musicals over the years this is just to 'put the icing on the cake'!

I originally purchased this for a friend who is also a teacher, however after seeing it, I decided I wanted one for my classroom as well! It is a great mix of animation and actual footage. My friend teaches in the primary grades and we both felt additional instruction and explanation might be necessary for that audience. I teach upper elementary and the DVD will support a basal reader selection quite nicely and without additional instruction. Highly recommend.

I first saw this movie back when my grandmother bought it on VHS in '92. For the first few minutes, I knew I was going to love this movie. It has become one of my favorites since then. Whoopi plays Deloris Van Cartier, who is a Las Vegas lounge singer whose boyfriend is in the local mob. She walks in and sees him killing a previous employer who went to report him to the police. Deloris gets scared immediately, runs away from Vince's (Harvey Keitel) buddies who are told to "take care of it", meaning kill Deloris. She reports the incident to the police, and the lieutenant gets her into hiding for a short time until Vince goes to trial. Deloris is reluctant, but agrees to go. She is put in a place where Vince wouldn't even think she's at: a convent. She meets with the strict Reverend Mother (played by Maggie ... Read More

VHS : Clara's Heart
This film is more than it wants to be. The critic and cynic in me would gleefully join Mr. Marshall Fine in enumerating the many ways this film tries to manipulate its audience. First on my list would be the score by Dave Grusin which acts as a musical leash to pull the audience where they probably would have gone anyway. But that is where I will stop, because although the film does everything in its power to convince us it's the cinematic equivalent of Prozac, it betrays this image by containing subtle, powerful insights that set it apart from its saccharine ilk. There IS something different here, you just have to know where to look. Its not so much about what Clara does for David, a lot of his problems remain after her departure... What is special about "Clara's Heart" is that its about the indestructible bond ... Read More

This movie has so many different aspects in it that I wanted to
study it. I have seen it on tv, but there is so many deep messages
in it that I wanted to study it. It is consumed with American culture-
especially from the black perspective. Several times I have discussed
things in the movie with my black friends.

VHS : In the Gloaming
"In The Gloaming" is an excellent HBO production based on the story by Alice Elliott Dark. First time director Christopher Reeve tackled this challenging story about a young man with AIDS who comes back to the home of his wealthy parents to die. This drama only takes 62 minutes, but it packs an emotional wallop as the main characters have to come to terms with both their past relationships and the people they have become.

Robert Sean Leonard (who you may recognize from "House") plays the young terminally ill man, and steals the show. He brings almost painful poignancy to the role without appearing to be a caricature of suffering. Most of his time is spent with his mother, Glenn Close, who does a good job as the caring, though formerly distant, mother. The scenes these two share are astoundingly good. Also ... Read More
